Got my Convos and 2 things struck me: 1) Does anybody know why the back of the cards is just this grey graphic? I think it does not match the pictures on the cards. 2) Why is a swan on the 4 of coins? Surely not because it also starts with an S like Spalinger's name? It is the only animal depicted on the Minors. |

still my favorite
I got this as my first Tarot de Marseilles and took to it right off. For me, and I know this is heretical, the English Language titles are a BIG PLUS. I do not speak French, and find the French titles annoying. But the brightness of the deck is the main draw for me. IF I could only get a Hadar with English titles.......LOL The Hadar is my second favorite. __________________ "We don't see things as they are, we see things as *we* are." (Anais Nin) |

Tarotbones - as a Francophone myself, I totally understand you would want a deck in your own language! I think for some Anglophones there is a certain romanticism in saying "Reyne de Deniers" instead of Queen of Coins (especially since in modern French, it's spelled Reine!), but for familiarity I would suppose the mother tongue to be important. What I don't like in translated Marseille is when they translate "Reyne de Deniers" into Queen of Pentacles, or Papesse into High Priestess - which I think is both patronizing and a betrayal of the specificity of the ancient decks, which predate the era of High Priestesses and Pentacles by some centuries. __________________ All generalizations are false, including this one. Thanks
Thanks for understanding, Helvetica. I did not intend to offend anybody for whom French is not an issue, just that I like to understand what I see. I can usually figure it out, of course, as I speak Spanish, but my own language is my preference. I agree regarding the Papesse and the Pentacles. Unfortunate. And even though I'm principally using the Fey at the moment, does not mean I've packed away my TdM!! :-) __________________ "We don't see things as they are, we see things as *we* are." (Anais Nin) |

Hm, I am still using the Convos and try to see the back of the card according to Fulgour's explanation. However, I still wish there were a more matching pattern on the back. |
