The Story behind the K & C "Hexerey" Thoth Deck.

I would like to start this thread to give some more information on these decks that I have been offering in the trade thread, it seems that many of you would like to know more and perhaps when you guys receive yours, you may want to discuss them here.

Last Summer my mom found 2 of these strange Thoth decks on a flea market and sent them to me. I couldn't make much of them and decided to sell them on Ebay. I priced them at $60 each and they sold within 5 minutes.

Here some photos of the deck - the trumps have a purple border and you can see the card backs here:

Each suit of the minors has a different colored border - Wands are light blue, Cups are dark grey, Swords yellow and the Pentacles light grey or off white:

Here you can see all the cards with the different colored borders in comparison, along with the instructional fold out sheet in German:

Afterwards I received a ton of emails from people wanting one, but I had no idea what they were and had no info. Then I forgot about them.

Thankfully, both buyers of this deck were forum members ......

In January of this year, one of the 2 buyers then started a thread in the TCF and which raised quite a bit of interest about the origin of this unusual Thoth deck.

And naturally, I was frustrated that I was unable to find out where they came from because now I was curious, too!

I even asked around in German forums and called a few other places but without any luck. I even asked my mom to keep an eye out on Ebay Germany, "just in case".

I'll skip the part of how I ended up finding these decks. It was kind of bizarre. But I found the printing company that had made them and they still had a box full of these left and they were a bit startled when I asked if I could buy them.

They were able to give me information about the creators of this Thoth edition and I am now in touch with one of them.

These decks were designed by 2 ladies who used to own a Pagan/Occult shop in Munich called "Hexerey" about a decade ago and they sold them at Renaissance fairs and various Esoteric fairs in small towns of the Munich area in Bavaria, Germany, for a short period of time, where they also gave readings with these decks. They were never sold online, only at these fares around Munich.

Several hundred had been printed altogether and almost all of them had been sold. Then, at some point, both "Witches" decided to move on to other things. The store eventually closed and the remaining decks that were still at the printer started collecting dust. The link to the store still exists, I am guessing they still do some kind of witch related entertainment work.

The symbol on the back of the cards is the emblem for their store : http://photokat.com/offline/tarot/hexerey.jpg

It's a sun and a celtic triskele in the middle. Around the triskele, there are the letters K and C , which are the initials of the ladies. K for Katrin and C for Christiane. The other horned little thing (I first thought it's the devil) is actually the symbol for taurus, both their birth signs.

And orange their favorite color.

Here a picture of the 2 creators: http://photokat.com/offline/tarot/kandc.jpg

Ta-ta! Now ya know ; )

Hope that you guys will get a kick out of this deck!

This deck was "published" in 2003 and was sold between 2003 and 2005.

Wow that's so cool! I am guessing that you have met Katrin and Christiane?

Did you ever see this deck around Munich back then?

Thanks for sharing the story! I'll be printing this off to go with my deck, so I don't forget how very special and unique it is. :D

I am hoping to chat with Christiane over the phone to get some more info on them, the coloring of the deck and whatever else I can find out.
And then posting it here, of course : )

Two hilariously funny brunettes? If it was them, then yes I met them ... I think I saw them last with their stall at a medieval Christmas market several years back.

Don't remember the deck, but then I never really connected with the Thoth, so that might explain it.

(Btw, I'll send you a list tomorrow... it needs some work.)

How interesting! I'm glad you posted, I think I'll print the story out to put with my deck also. I hope you do manage to get more info from Christiane :)

Such an odd story... And I love the fact that if you go to their website, it says "today's date is 01/01/1970"

This made me laugh. And I loved the image you put in my head photokat (in your PM; hope you don't mind me sharing it here), of the two ladies setting up their Thoth booth next to the grilled Bratwurst stall...

Don't mind at all ... I should have added that above.
Hahaha!
