Sumerian Origin?

Aeon Sage

Most of us are familiar with these theories of the origin of Tarot.

Some believe it came from ancient mysticism.

Others are more realistic by saying that Tarot came from China, to India, crossing the Mamluck Empire, finally ending up in Europe.

I'm with the more realistic theory, but I can make up my own Tarot Origin Theory.

During my research on the Sumerian Language, I came by the word "Târu", Sumerian for "to Turn", "to Return", est.

One could interpret that as the "The Return to the Path of Wisdom", or something like that.

There is a Sanskrit root "TAR" / "TRA" meaning "to move" or "to go through". I think this is closely connected to the Sumerian word Taru.
You can find similar meanings searching "TARA" here.
Apparently, this meaning was transferred (TRA-nsferred :) ) to words such as "trapano" (Italian for "drill") or "tara" (ancient Italian for "hole"). I guess this happened because holes are produced by friction, i.e. by movement.

One theory that we discussed here some time ago is that the word "Tarocchi" means "decorated with holes" (as can be seen in many XV century cards, such as the Visconti Sforza or Charles VI).
