Modern SpellCaster’s - King Of Pentacles.

Tanga

Here’s a King with an “I have it!” expression.
- Dressed in a deep emerald green of nature and prosperity, he looks comfortable and capable.

- World-ly and down to earth - he’s holding onto BACCHUS’ THRYSUS it seems (the staff of giant fennel topped with a pine cone. ) - which symbolises prosperity, fertility and hedonism.
There’s a Bacchus figure over his left shoulder dangling grapes in his face.
Such temptation!

- One could stretch the symbolism further to say the large sack of coins at the Kings feet, is an echo of the female. So the thrysus, is to the phallic male, and the sack - to the womb-like female. The conjoining of the two “brings forth blessedness”, or “one truth”. :) (a Pagan blessing).
This all emphasizes animal instincts, which is what Satyrs represent -
there being a Satyr over the Kings right shoulder about to play some magickal pipes.
Satyr’s are followers of Bacchus - more hedonism? wild romps in the hay?.
Too much enjoyment maybe.

- I read, that the thrysus could be a spear in disguise, who’s iron point incited MADNESS. Madness is isolating.
As Midas’ greed (a kind of madness) isolated him (he asked that everything he touch turn to gold) and also was his undoing - as he starved to death, because he could not eat gold.
(One of my names for this card - is "King Midas").

- But - at the King's right foot, there is a greying old squirrel…
resuourcefulness and prudence is still alive and kicking.
