The grime is thick in places. Where it is thickest I have been able to take some off with a knife blade. But in other places it is not as thick and the blade has not enough grip. And there are many smears on many cards and they look suspect....
I have though of wiping the cards with alcoohol or cologne, but I fear it will wipe off the images also. The cards are matte, they do not seem heavily laminated....

Any idea ?
NOT alcohol, no. And a razor blade will do better than a knife.

It's a shame you live in France; with better food than the UK - one of the BEST things is bread, but the really nasty cheap sliced loaves you get in plastic - Wonderbread and the like - WHITE is best ! - ball it up and roll it HARD over the cards - it picks up a disgusting amount. I am told blutack also works, but rubbish bread is cheaper. But I don't know if any of the bread you get in France is squishy enough... You have such lovely bread....

You may be able to get a surprising amount off with a microfibre cloth just VERY slightly dampened.

Thank you so much for your answers !

Rhinemaiden, you are right and I have thought about it, but ... sight.... all that business of filing with ebay, sending back the decks (I already paid quite a lot of money for shipping and custom costs since they came from US..) So I will only do that as a last resort if I cannot use them at all - I leave myself a week to try and take care of the mess, and if all things fail I will follow your advice. Thanks !

Gregory, thank you ! I should have thought of the razor blade myself, what am I thinking of ? But thanks, you are right !
And the trick of the bread is wonderful. We do have cheap sliced bread packaged in plastic, we can buy those at the supermarket, but usually nobody buys it because the bread is so much better at the baker corner !
But I'll get some cheaped white sliced bread and try it ! It's a very good trick to keep on hand ! Thanks !
I already tried the microfibre but it did not work great because in many places the "crust" was too thick. I'll do the razor and then come back with the microfibre. I have a feeling the bread trick will do good. Things are looking up !

Thank you
