Tarot-esque works of art?

MandMaud

Someone linked to the highly literal tarot meanings on this site (and already I can't remember which thread that was or who); I stayed exploring for a bit and found this. Perhaps because I was in tarot mode, but my first thought was the Nine of Pentacles: http://the-toast.net/2015/02/11/happiest-woman-world-looks-like/

Any other paintings that fit a card really well? This is another fun way to play with interpretations, like picking the card that sums up a fictional character, etc. But I'm pretty ignorant on art, even though I love it. :D

Oh l love that picture its perfect for the 9 pentacles. l shall have to have a root around and see if l can find a work of art.

Tanga

Like your thread. And I'm pretty ignorant of art too - except for the couple of artists that I really like.
I could be tempted to post lots of JW Waterhouse paintings here...

Here's a Hermit idea:

Actually - the idea of him like this, I originally saw as a Tarot Pendant (which I now have) - the deck is - I think - The Incidental Tarot...

That's a thought-provoking one, Tanga. Enlightenment, rather than a lantern...? :)

You've reminded me of the cover image on Liz Greene's 'Saturn':
https://books.google.ru/books?id=nR...over&hl=ru&source=gbs_atb#v=onepage&q&f=false
(not that it's anything like the image you link to, visually - but it's another Hermit, even though the book's subtitle is 'A New Look at an Old Devil'. })).

(That's the only image I found online which is the same as my old battered copy of that book.)

ETA: Actually this leads to rather interesting thoughts comparing the Devil and the Hermit!

Madrigal

I have always *loved* Nicholas Roerich's "Mother of the World" as an interpretation of The High Priestess.

Madrigal

And I equally love Rousseau's "Sleeping Gypsy" as the Strength card.

Nemia

Vermeer's Woman Holding a Balance for Justice.

Nemia, love this! And I keep thinking there must be a card for 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'...Page of Cups perhaps?

Yes! First time I've seen it, love it too.

Farzon

Arik Brauer's "Mein Vater im Winter" (My father during winter) as Hermit. Also note that the picture shows a Jew during the Nazi-regime.
