Tarot-esque works of art?

Tanga

...Below is an interesting though more oblique depiction of the Strength card. For me it speaks more to the inner embodiment of Key 8. It's by Kinuko Craft.

Huh... interesting. But not Strength for me - unless you cut out that knight in the background who feels to me, like he's wondering if he could manage to sneak up behind her and chop off her head (beautiful pelt and all).
It's beautiful.

These may not look like paintings, but they are... this is Patrick Woodroffe's art.

I love "The Tower"!

Great thread, MandMaud!

What about this for the Empress? She's who I thought of when I first looked at the painting. It's from Robert Braithwaite Martineau - A Woman Of San Germano. (Renaissance Italy)

She looks like she's rather bored. :-D

I can't take credit for this one, but I was looking around for background to my new thread asking about the Two of Cups and found this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/L'Amour_et_Psyché_(Picot).jpg linked from here: http://thetarotnook.com/2013/05/20/2-of-cups/ - it covers the choice aspect of the Two as well as the lurve aspect, so I think it works.

Well now Eros - you cheeky thing. :)
I like the analysis in the link, and agree.

Oh, that's just my kind of painting. It's rich warm, and so sensual! I can feel that baby's little hand in mine and the weight of him on my lap, and I can smell his skin. The Empress, yes - except that this woman looks not exactly full of the joys of life. Not unhappy, but not feeling the delight right at this moment. Or am I misreading her expression?

No, you're not misreading her expression. I think you're right. I wish there was a hint of joy in that beautiful face of hers. Maybe, she's just tired?? Even Empresses get tired, right? ;) Or as Tanga said, she looks bored. That could very well be it! In any case, I also feel the painting is warm and sensual.

These are great! Another artist new to me - another thank you. And yes, they could all have been conceived as pure tarot. Extraordinary when you think that they weren't. What a mind.

ETA: I can see a face in the Tower, at the top just below that tree. In the rock, like those faces you can make out in tree trunks (or old wallpaper patterns ;)).

And I wish that King of Pents didn't look quite so much like Richard Branson! Although when you think about it, Branson could almost be a King of Pents himself... no, more King of Swords and/or Wands, methinx. :)

 Richard Branson!! I'll never look at that card the same - oops, picture ;)

Thankyou for taking a look at those - I actually would not have known Patrick passed away unless for the thread - so its a bitter sweet celebration and acknowledgement of his work in a way. He could create so whimsically, yet with so much emotion. That little stranded merfish as the Page of cups is one of my all time favourite creatures.
Cheers.

That "little stranded merfish" reminds me of a book I've got by Patrick Moore's mother... let's see if I can find it, or some examples of her art...

Got it! Although these creatures are far less pretty, they're so appealing. :) https://duckduckgo.com/?q="mrs+moor...jackets_resizer_large/15/158632.jpg&ia=images
