Fairytale Tarot -Six of cups

moderndayruth

Violets caught my attention, reminding me the first sign of spring after the (harsh) winter.
The bird in the sky is carrying a small branch in her beak which reminded me of the Biblical dove and the olive branch.

The story is "Hansel and Gretel" by brothers Grimm.

Although with a happy ending, this is quite harsh story, throughout the story H&G are helpless victims… until the sister fools the witch – just after that the children gain control and safety again.

Hansel and Gretel is a great choice to embody the poignancy of the Six of Cups. It reminds us of the vulnerability of innocence.

There is something that seems horrificially modern--or, perhaps, universal--about the mother's (or stepmother's?) willingness to slay her children. We still see stories like this in the news every day.
