I have two tarot decks. one is new and the other one my mum used to read with. she gave it to me a while ago.

so anyways, after doing a bunch of readings with her old deck, I realised that it is missing more than a few cards.
from now on I will always check my decks for missing cards in the future.

has this happened to anybody else?
are the readings I did with the deck that was missing cards skewed?? should I re do those readings using my new deck?

thanks for the advice

I bought a brand new Wizards Tarot which had something like 33 Majors and 45 minors, i didn't initially check the cards when it arrived and when i did a reading i wondered why i had a lot of Majors in it! Luckily i went back to the publisher and they supplied the missing minors but to be honest if i were you i would redo the reading if cards were missing. Now i always check all the cards just to make sure - lesson learned :)

:bugeyed:

Really! I have never heard of that before.

Reading; "You have a pair of Emperors and 3 Chariots ... thats a full house! "

I would consider any reading with 'not the full deck' (either in the deck or the reader) null.

Are you SURE that some cards aren't stuck together? It's happened, I went for nearly a year missing a Hanson-Roberts card, & didn't use the deck. I shuffled, riffled, etc. & it was GONE but it turned out that 2 were stuck together...go thru the deck, card by card, feeling them. If not, you could always manufacture the missing cards yourself! Or maybe someone here has spares, check that out. What deck is it? Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable with missing cards, although many will say that whatever 'powers' the cards will compensate. Who knows? If it works for you, then go for it.

Of course the readings will be skewed if you're not playing with a full deck, lol. But that may not be a bad thing...

How many of the majors do you have? Majors-only readings can be very enlightening. Some tarot folks say that there are actually two separate decks (E. Connolly, for example), the majors deck and the minors deck.

If you are only missing a one or three Majors, someone may be able to help you in the Lost and Found Thread here. You may want to look into it, since this is obviously a special deck with sentimental value.

I'm of the belief that nothing happens by accident and that whatever message you got from those readings is what you were supposed to get. :) But whatever you choose to do about it, definitely recount the cards. I've had the same experience as canid....counted cards, found I was shot...counted again and they were all there after all.

Normally I'd be inclined to suggest what everyone else has. But if the deck came from someone you care about ... and it was their loved working-deck ...

What the hell. It's got sentimental value. Use it. :)

I bought a brand-new MRP deck (their fairy tale, from memory), and it had two of one card and none of another unrelated card. I wrote to Karen, offering to send the extra back but I got to keep it, and she sent me not only the missing card from the deck but a second title card, signed and dated by the creative team. Score!

If you genuinely didn't know, then no, certainly not if the readings weren't hard to do. The deck would have found a way to talk to you. Now that you know there are missing cards, yes. You'll never be able to read with it again, knowing there are holes in it and wondering if there are holes in the readings.

I have two decks exactly alike that I read with and somehow two World cards ended up in the same deck. I was doing a reading and it turns out I needed both World cards for an accurate reading for this person. I feel nothing happens by accident, it was meant to be. I usually do count my cards just to make sure they are all there. As for the readings being off, I would redo the readings, you might be surprised the reading come out with the same answer.

I'm sure. the wheel of fortune and the five of cups got pulled out for an art project lol and besides those two I'm missing a few more cards.

it's a miniature RWS deck I love it bc it's size
makes it easy to trav with.
