I'm normally a multi-tasker in general, but I have tackled learning multiple decks at one time. I don't see any reason to have to give up one system for another.
For me, learning them side-by-side allowed me to really get a feel of the differences and similarities. Keeping a Tarot journal handy for notes helps a lot as well. It can get confusing at times, but that's where notes and research comes in handy.
I still use both of those decks today despite the fact that they're in different systems and they both work wonderfully for me.
