Colouring on 1910 "Pamela A" question

Fulgour

I was wondering... if someone had an original set of the Rider
Tarot cards as they were issued in 1910, maybe even with the
accompanying book by A. E. Waite, with their original red box,
(even if, perhaps, six of the cards had a little minor paper loss)
how would they say the colours and line work compared with
the cards as they have appeared during the last 30-ish years?

And do they measure 2 7/16" by 4 5/16" border to border... ;)

On the Internet Sacred Texts website a comparison is done with 3 of the cards by J.B. Hare. The ones brought out in 1971 are pretty close.

We have a Forum Member with the exact deck
as described... I just wondered if they wanted
to talk about some of their observations here?

Much more detail. Lines are deft and not bulky.

The blanket on the 9 of Swords has details in each square – not incomplete ‘shading’ lines…

The colors are softer.

Ultimately, it comes down to the quality of the printing. They did better work back then.

edited to add: observations were made from a Pamela A.

I cut out a piece of white index stock and laid it over
a couple of my Rider's deck images to see if they fit.
35 were exact matches~ but 43 had some variations.

(This is from one of the decks... I don't have 78! :) )

Yes, but you know there is no excuse really, because print quality nowadays COULD be as fine as any print back then - it's just that far too much of the time it isn't.
