Lo Scarabeo 2014 Releases

Hmmm, doesn't seem like I'm interested in anything but the kitties. (Of course . . .)

Thanks for the heads-up though! (I like the way the pages turn in the catalog . . .)

I like the Marseille Cat, and perhaps the pagan leormand and Night Sun, though I'd want a closer look at those 2 before buying.

I'm over Nekked Busty Chicks on LoS decks. I don't buy their decks until I can see all the cards because of that. Do these guys ever grow up past 13? It's sad and obsessive. I don't expect much from them anymore between that, the comic book art and the cheezy modern pagan decks...but now and then they really pull off a winner, a great historic deck or something really fresh and innovative like Silicon Dawn or the Illuminati and I believe in them all over again. I keep hoping they'll move away from the near-naked busty broads eventually. I mean, how many 13 yo boys buy decks, anyway? Who is their market for that stuff?

Thank you for saying that. I have perhaps become a little too accepting of those women :).

I will be getting the Cat deck for sure, perhaps my only new purchase of the year from LS although I have not yet gotten the new Luisa Mattioli Deck. Saw a copy in a local book shop last week and will go back for that.

I think that LS have a very good range of decks, something for every taste.

It would seem that LS is stepping up their game lately! Looking forward to some of those decks!

I agree. I'm looking forward to several upcoming releases. I also agree with those who feel like LS is really "stepping up their game." To me, their newer decks have more variety in the artwork, and in the representation of the human figure, than their older decks.

The Nymphs deck is by the same artist who did the Tarot of Sexual Magic. In my opinion, that's the only deck that seems to have the overtly sexualized figures. One deck does not equal all decks. Lo Scarabeo may produce more of those types of decks than other publishers, but to say they are the overwhelming majority of what they produce, especially looking at the direction of their latest decks, seems a bit erroneous to me. Again, that's just my opinion, and I can certainly understand the frustration that has been expressed here. I've felt that same frustration before. I'm just trying to be fair and to respectfully offer a contrasting viewpoint. :)

To me, it looks like LS is broadening their horizons. I feel like they are listening to their customer base and trying to offer the variety that people are looking for. One deck in the more erotic style out of all the new releases seems like progress toward diversity (something for everyone) to me. It is also the deck that has received the least press of any of their 2014 offerings (on facebook).

*cough*...So how about that wrapping paper!? I thought some of that looked nice!

The Tarot of the Nymphs doesn't speak to me at all, but I'm kind of appalled at how these women are being compared to strippers and pornstars! While it is disappointing to see yet another deck filled with barely covered women, I didn't see anything pornographic or provocative about their poses. Their bodies look rather natural to me - no globular basketball boobs, no broken backs to display their butt and breasts at the same time, no massive cleavage with no support, nothing. Out of the five cards shown not one of the women is even acknowledging the "camera", never mind posing sexily for it. If just kind of standing or sitting around in little clothes makes you look like a pornstar then I guess I look like a pornstar every time I step out of the shower. :/ Now the rest of the deck could prove me totally wrong, but that is certainly not the vibe I am getting from the cards shown.

I agree. It bothers me that the "idealized" nude female form is automatically associated with sluttiness, that sensuality equals porn stars and prepubescent wet dreams. The images are suggestive, but then, this is the Tarot of the NYMPHS we're talking about.
the most reputable of sources said:
Nymphs are generally regarded as divine spirits who animate nature, and are usually depicted as beautiful, young nubile maidens who love to dance and sing; their amorous freedom sets them apart from the restricted and chaste wives and daughters of the Greek polis.
Can't women be sexually attractive without being degraded as strippers? The deck may not be my cup of tea, but the female form seems to be tastefully depicted in this deck.

I'll probably end up buying the Night Sun, and possibly the Mucha. The Night Sun intrigues me; I'm going to wait to see more cards from the Mucha. I'm worried it will read "flat" to me like the Tarot Art Nouveau.

A Klimt mini-deck! I might have to get that. The Mucha might be interesting, but I'm a bigger Klimt admirer.

Thanks for posting this! I see they have a new cat themed deck :)
I will have to buy that one when it is available - I adore cat themed decks almost as much as I adore cats :)

Cat TdM, Ceccoli, Mucha, the list of must haves for next year is growing. Can't believe I have to wait for the Ceccoli till September. The pictures they posted so far are so captivating. On the other hand, it seems to be the perfect deck for autumn season, so it will be worth the waiting.

As for the Silver Witchcraft, nice idea, but probably too much on the female side for my taste. Night Sun Tarot, meh, still don't know, but let's see.
