Wirth-Inspired Path Spread

rachelcat

In Tarot of the Magicians, Oswald Wirth shows the following arrangement of the majors (with Justice as 8 and Strength as 11):

-------------------6
1----2---3--4--5---7---8--9--10---11
0---21-20-19-18--16-15-14-13---12
-------------------17

And theorizes that they describe two life paths:
An active Path of Choosing (6. Lovers) taken by the Magician (1), resulting in Strength (11); and
A passive Path of Receiving (17. Star) taken by the Fool (0), resulting in letting go (12. Hanged Man).

On each path, the left set of four cards are the lessons on the path, and the right set are actions taken once the lessons are learned.

(This is my interpretation of Wirth’s ideas. I have not used his wording, and your mileage may vary!)

The spread has the same position meanings, but uses randomly selected cards. Or choose card 6 to represent the questioner’s desired path, and then randomly select the others.

------------6
1--2-3-4-5--7-8-9-10--11

6. This reading is about the Path of _____, a path the questioner is considering or should consider taking.

1. Questioner at the start of the path.

2 – 5. Lessons to be learned on the path.

7. Action to take as a result of learning the lesson of card 5.
8. Action to take as a result of learning the lesson of card 4.
9. Action to take as a result of learning the lesson of card 3.
10. Action to take as a result of learning the lesson of card 2.

11. Questioner at the end of the path. Result. What will be achieved.

Let me know if you try this!
