New Orleans Voodoo Tarot - 8 Congo--Simbi D'L'Eau [8 of Cups]

afrosaxon

Simbi D’L’Eau glides through the ocean. IN his mouth is a nest of wriggling snakes in shades of blue and green (ocean colors). Simbi is the lwa of illusion and trickery, most often portrayed as a green snake. The Simbi is also a family of serpent lwa. Simbi is considered a messenger of Legba.

Simbi is the bearer of souls to all places, and also the creative principle (Milo Rigaud).

The NOVT book interprets this card as one of emotional confusion and miscommunication: are you the snakes in Simbi’s mouth, writing around, or are you Simbi, gliding calmly through the water because he knows what is illusion and what is not and can thus navigate smoothly. In this sense, this card can also indicate a need to make sure that what you are feeling is based in reality. The sky is a clear blue in the background  look beyond the obvious. At first glance, it looks like the snakes are obscuring part of Simbi’s upper body but it’s just that his neck is very narrow; again, look beyond the confusion/what seems to be real in order to see the true image.
