I am in the process of reading (well, actually of listening to on CD) The Rule of Four, which is similar in that it involves ancient text and coding, in this case the central book is the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili (gee, I hope I spelled that right), which seems to be a fascinating text printed during the Italian Renaissance. The story here involves a group or Princeton University students uncovering the mystery of the text, which has fascinated scholars for centuries.

It is a great read, and a bit of a mystery, but also more academically-minded, for those who can relate to the college scene.
