From Lynda HIll's 360 degrees of wisdom - the function of the comedian is to show there is a need to have a lighter and more positive attitude toward ourselves, others and life in general. Seeing the funny side, having insights always being on the go, putting on a show for others, being the life of the party......

Dr M E JONES - The Sabian Symbols in Astrology - key word Release This is a symbol of the mirror which life holds up to itseld recurrently and facilitates an every day understanding of itself. Uninhibited self expression.

Numerology 2 - from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numerology#Two
representing partnerships, disunion and polarities duality
good and evil, black and white, male and female, left and right. Yin-Yang Two may be considered feminine, intuitive, and corresponds with our protective instincts.

This symbol reminds me of Seinfeld!!

From Lynda Hills The Sabian Symbol as an Oracle -
Some of the keywords are: Seeing the lighter side, having insight, Putting on a show for others, Humerous interplay.
The Cautions: Being silly or trivial, avoiding reality, difference of opinion, being flippant, not being amised, Feeling responsible how others feel.

This Symbol gives me the impression that there can be a time where things really dont matter as much as they did previously - the person has a change in attitude or perspective.

A recent reading indicated this quite clearly, as the Karmic Symbol Aries 1 came into play - 'A woman has risen out of the Ocean A seal is Embracing her'. It seemed that after a time of 'Death & Rebirth' the new 'self' emerges with a need of necessary relief, friends, humour and lightheartedness around their situation. It may help that the Comedian aspect can offer support at a time when looking back or assessing what the Soul has gone through helps the person and supports them emotionally. Laughter being the aid for healing, and 'release'.
Maybe this Symbol indicates that a person may have gone through a long period of transition and needs to be able to look at the situation with a humerous slant. maybe they need to be able to laugh at themselves to - find forgiveness, and not be so harsh on themselves.

On another note - this Symbol reminds me of some aspects of the Magician from the Tarot - especially the Marseilles type decks. Charisma and trickery - the entertainer - the cleverness and the satire.

Element Orange Sapphire.
Discussion: A pinkish-orange colour this sapphire is also known as the "padparadscha" after the lotus blossom, and is a rare fiery gem. This gem traditionally aids in increasing hope, faith, intelligence, wisdom, prophecy and happiness. Mainly it aids in firing up optimism and attracts prosperity for the wearer. The Spirit, Colour and Energy of this element fits, mainly the self confidence and passion the flashy REDness - combines well with the passion in comedy - and lifting up emotions.

MORE ON CLOWNS AND their side kicks - taken from

Clown (Court Jester, Fool, Dummling)

The Clown archetype is associated with three major characteristics: making people laugh, making them cry, and wearing a mask that covers one's own real emotions. The Clown is generally male, with few women playing the role either in literature or the theater. This may well be explained by the social attitude that associates weakness and loss of control with a man who expresses emotions. Therefore, the man has to wear a mask, which often portrays a crying face. The Clown reflects the emotions of the crowd, making an audience laugh by satirizing something they can relate to collectively or by acting out social absurdities. In general, the messages communicated through a Clown's humor are deeply serious and often critical of the hypocrisy in an individual or in some area of society. Because of the mask he wears, the Clown is allowed--indeed, expected--to cross the boundaries of social acceptance, representing what people would like to do or say themselves.

The Court Jester or Fool is the manifestation of the Clown in a royal setting. Since no one can possibly take a fool seriously at the physical level, he is allowed entry into the most powerful of circles. While entertaining the king with outrageous behavior, the Fool is actually communicating messages that the king trusts. Political satirists often have dominant Court Jester archetypes, revealing the motivations of the highest officials in the nation in a manner that is generally granted freedom from the legal retribution that might be leveled against an ordinary citizen making the same comments.

Related to the Fool is the Dummling, the fairy tale character who, although often simple-minded, acts with a good heart and is usually rewarded for it. Modern film characters such as Forrest Gump and Nurse Betty embody this aspect of the archetype, which does not so much impart wisdom as foster living with kindness and simplicity.

The shadow aspect of the Clown or Fool manifests as cruel personal mockery or betrayal, specifically the breaking of confidences gained through knowledge from the inner circle.

In reviewing your relationship to this archetype, consider your use of humor in association with power. Since everyone is prone to jesting, you are looking for a connection to a pattern of behavior that is fundamental to your personal protection and survival. In distinguishing Clown from Fool, note that the Fool is connected to arenas of power, while the Clown does his best work as an Everyman, like Ralph Kramden on "The Honeymooners." Reflect on whether "clowning" around is an essential channel for expressing your emotions over and above simple play. Ask yourself if, like the Fool, you carry truth into closed circles or closed minds.

Hoja Nasredin (Sufi figure in Egypt, Iran, and Turkey, half saint and half fool, who acts like a ninny to teach wisdom); Sir Dagonet (the fool of King Arthur who was knighted as a joke, but who also performed bravely in tournaments); Heyoka (in Lakota Sioux lore, someone who does things backwards to teach people not to take themselves too seriously); Coyote (in Native American lore.

Companion (Friend, Sidekick, Right Arm, Consort)

The Sidekick's qualities of loyalty, tenacity, and unselfishness are the positive aspects of this archetype. A Sidekick/Companion provides a service, symbolically speaking, to a personality that often has a stronger nature or a role in life that carries more authority. Secretaries and personal assistants are examples of Right Arms, taking care of the day-to-day details of life. You might have an inner Companion that takes care of the details and allows another archetype to focus on work central to your mission. Companions are associated with providing emotional rather than sexual support. Platonic or friendship bonds are more in keeping with that particular archetype.

Betrayal is a common example of the shadow side of the Companion, which damages the soul.

Body part: Midbrain

My notes which with Marina, Elven and Huredriel may be similar:

Hysterics, a good-hearted companion, tells the wildest tales, friends gasp, look startled, wail, are amused, cheerful, they throw back their heads, laugh louder!!

Comedians protest loudly, friends laugh heartedly, snicker, crouch, exchange grins, flash eyes with one another…..(All midbrain expressions – audio visual clues)

Stern faces brighten, smiling at the comedians sarcasm…

Where do all these expressions come from? And not only expressions, but gestures and even postures (crouching). Then there’s the dominating and the passive more submissive roles. These are collectively our sensory and motor systems that were developed for our (animal to human) survival!.

Every human action goes back in some part to our animal origins. The midbrain is an older part of the brain (reptilian), which collectively developed. It is from the amphibian (water dweller) that we later evolved to land. As land dwellers, like babies we learned to crawl, which soon became second nature to us which initiated more elaborate movements such as pressing up and learning to stand. Then walking, running, jumping......

In the Aries 1 A WOMAN HAS RISEN OUT OF THE OCEAN, A SEAL IS EMBRACING HER……An example here could be an athlete’s (or comedians) mind which is fixed on ahead of him, building up his skill, he ‘creatively vaults in imagination into the future’ – a climatic action. Blood violently coursing through their veins, their intake of air can be seen has heat or radiation if viewed through an infra-red instrument….or aura photography. Or as Huredriel put it….steam!

This is what I had put for Aries 2:

Aries 2 - A Comedian Entertaining a Group of Friends.

A joker ........ the clown in our midst ....... often has a good sense of humour ....... and when with friends, are of like-minded individuals ....... a safe circle? Entertaining then ...... perhaps using their *knowledge* or skill ...... to share with others ..... to bring happiness to others' lives .... to lighten them?

Yet also 2 brings to mind the High Priestess ...... the inner secrecy ...... perhaps a state of being where one has gained knowledge ...... been through many trials ..... and keeps the pain inside ...... using the *clown* aspect to mask such stuff? Could be used as a deflection?

One other thought occurred to me recently regarding the title ....... that of school ...... the class clown ...... very often didn't start out that way ........ you often hear of how a kid was picked on and the only way he could stop that from happening was to make the bullies laugh ....... so it becomes a protective mechanism ...... one that is usually carried forward in life as the person matures into an adult.

Another thought what if you are not the clown but the friend ....... what if this title is about a group of you going for a night out to see comedians?

Aries = fire ..... 2 = High Priestess ...... as someone said to me recently, take away the mystery of the HPs ..... what you have left is a person who probably seems quite quiet ..... possibly introverted ...... influenced heavily by the Moon ........ water and Aries fire ..... again steam ..... so perhaps a *night out* would be a way of *letting off the steam*?

I also see 2s as very much about balance ...... they've started to walk their path ....... taken the seed (the number 1) .... perhaps this is the planting? Making sure that it is planted in the right environment ...... after all .... if you needed light relief such as laughter ..... you wouldn't go and see something that would depress you, would you!
