Nudity in Tarot.

As for the silliness of penises, I do not agree. They are sensual and sometimes commanding, and sometimes frightening. They are just like women's genitalia. No more no less, let's stop with calling man bits a joke or funny or silly. I honestly don't know how they are sillier than my lady bits.

I have to do this...and I'm sorry if it offends anyone, its not meant to, its simply one of my favorite quotes from a series of monologues that I saw when I was in college and upon reading, it popped into my head and I felt the need to share it...perhaps it will help confidence :)

The clitoris is pure in purpose. It is the only organ in the body designed purely for pleasure. The clitoris is simply a bundle of nerves: 8,000 nerve fibers, to be precise. That's a higher concentration of nerve fibers than is found anywhere else in the body, including the fingertips, lips, and tongue; and it is twice...twice...twice the number in the penis. Who needs a handgun when you've got a semiautomatic.

Like I say, I see no problem with the human form in any state. If you feel drawn to make a certain card nude then do so. It is your deck and if you feel that is the absolute best way to convey the emotion/meaning/energy/feeling you're trying to get across then GO FOR IT! You shouldn't worry about 'others' because no matter which direction you choose to take there will always be 'others' there...in fact its simply impossible to completely please 'others'. The most important thing is for you to feel confident in your final product and like the results. If you're feeling drawn to include nudity in a certain place, and you choose not to simply because of those 'others' then you will always be left with that feeling of "this card should have been THIS way...."

How does a penis look any sillier than a breast or labia flopping about? Sometimes a clitoris is very large, elongated or silly looking.

I strongly dislike the typical male, heterosexual gaze when it comes to nudity, in decks or films or what ever. Some depictions of nudity are equal and kind. Some forms of nudity are all about the fake tits and emaciated bodies, as long as the boobs and butts are healthy enough, it's fine. It astounds me when I see talented artists drawing breasts that look like they are fake and filled with silicone gel or what ever, instead of drawing real, natural and sexy bodies.

I can't imagine that you'd do that, Wooden-eye, I think your depiction of nude bodies would be totally fair and loving. And beautiful. I'm right behind you on this. Go for it!

I agree.
The individuality and uniqueness of the human personality and the human body is what makes it beautiful.
If I wanted photoshopped or plastic/silicon surgically enhanced naked bodies I'd just pick up a porn mag, but really where is the beauty in those images?
In a tarot deck, I don't want gratuitous nudity, but when it suits the cards meaning, I want to see natural beauty.
Trying to get penises to look like something in particular is like putting silicon filled boobs on the women.
No double standards, no hypocrites, and no unrealistic images to mess with peoples expectations or self esteem.
Just natural. There's not enough of that. Somehow it seems that sex and nakedness is taboo if its natural, but all over the shop if its idealised.

Saw a doco once which showed an experiment that tracked people's gaze when shown pictures of naked people. EVERYONE spent a significant amount of time looking at the sexual organs. Both sexes. Their eyes kept going back there.
Might not be PC, but there you go. Those bits are interesting! They do attract attention, on a tarot card or a body. Fact of life.
Wax lyrical all you like about the beauty of the human body in all its diversity and grandeur of design, sometimes a penis just looks funny dangling there. I do have a pretty well developed sense of the ridiculous, but I don't think I'm all that unusual in thinking this!
I stand by my opinion that there's nothing wrong with nudity. It's just that, for reasons given above, a penis has the potential to steal the show ;).

You know what ? We stayed in a naturist campsite in Croatia several years ago. Clothes were not banned, but I saw no-one wearing any. I saw no-one looking at any particular bits, either.

One morning we were in the car park, dressed, as we were about to go into Dubrovnik, and an Englishman (he had seen our UK licence plates) came over to ask how we had handled our car insurance. We had a nice chat. He was older than us - must have been 60s or so, and a civil servant - and so on.

It wasn't until we were half way to town that it occurred to us that we had been chatting to a naked civil servant (it amused, as there is a book by that name) and we hadn't even noticed that he had no clothes on. I woudn't even have been able to picture him below the shoulders - I was looking at his face.

It's all about the unfamiliarity and society's attitudes. People in a naturist camp don't ogle. There's no point. But presented with images as a study - that's a whole different thing. That's obviously a situation where your reactions are being watched; it also has little to do with human beings.

And prudence - I agree that there are silly looking bits of women too - but in what you might call perfect condition, they don't DANGLE like that. When prepared for use (!) the penis is a lot more impressive than any women's bits, I agree.

I'm in favor of nudity anywhere and everywhere.

Except for me personally.

In a real life setting, you're dealing with people, not images, or people in an objectified situation. Plenty of more important things to focus on when having a conversation or going about your day, than checking out everyone's bits.
