Fields Bookstore is closed now, although I believe they have an online presence now.

I went to their website and it says their store is in San Jose.

But I checked out their Tarot pages and title after title after title is sold out. I wonder why. Well not sold out---it says backorder on all of them. They have almost all on backorder status out of 14 pages devoted to Tarot.

David & Ellen no longer have a store, so the address is just their work address. A lot of things are probably on backorder because they don't warehouse everything and it might take a little longer to deliver (or they just don't want to be bothered with stuff you can get anywhere? - my supposition). I believe they are trying to develop a focus on making available books from smaller, specialist occult and metaphysical presses that publish in-depth works by true masters - both scholars and practitioners. At PantheaCon they always have a very impressive selection of books you can't find elsewhere. So, it's not about having everything. It's about knowing what is really outstanding.

Sacred Well in Oakland

If you're willing to get out of SF, the Sacred Well in Oakland on Grand Ave has a good selection of tarot decks and the best selection of crystals I've seen in the Bay Area. Also, it's right next to Oaktown Spice Shop, which has a good herb selection. It's mostly geared toward cooking but convenient if you pick up some tarot cards and you're out of sea salt. I haven't been to the Sacred Rose in SF, but the other shops mentioned seemed good to me. Sadly, SF is not the city it once was when it comes to counterculture of any kind. The Psychic Eye bookstore was the largest occult store I've ever seen in my life. I mean massive--like an occult emporium really--but it closed up shop many years ago. SF is mostly about $$$ these days and less about offbeat living and spiritual exploration IMHO.

The Psychic Eye bookstore was indeed an awesome store! I was so sorry to see it close up. I spent many hours in that store looking through their amazing books and jewelry and candles and anything you ever needed. Those were the days! I'm pretty sure this is their website but nothing like the store. http://www.psychiceyebookshops.com

Yes, I think you're right. Very likely the same people. Didn't realize they had more than one store! I went there a number of times back in the day and remember taking an astrology class there maybe 15 years ago. I had just moved to the City from Humboldt County, which had its share of occult stores, but I remember being amazed be the sheer *size* of that place. Oh well... Things change, right?
