Images of Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

I've never seen it, so it might be mythical...
kind of like usgamessystemsinc's copyright :)

I have just seen for myself an edition of the
University Books "Pictorial Key" by that guy,
priced at $7.50 (look at those discount cards)
with the deck listed as available for $5.00 :)

The box has 2 parts. Both are covered what I'd best describe as a dark maroon faux leather contact paper. . . . There was no LWB or title card or anything that came with it. I don't know if there was at one time.

I have the same deck/box - with cards pasted on the front and back - The Fool and the High Priestess. There are also two blank cards - but the former owner pasted a prayer and an invocation over them:

"I am surrounded by the white light of Tiphareth.
The fire is my friend and it will destroy all evil.
It is above me. It is around me. It is beneath me. It is all over me.
Though ten thousand come upon me they shall stumble and fall.
For I am invisible. I am invulnerable.
I am invincable to everything that is not like Tiphareth.
Amen Amen Amen.
11-23-66" [dated at bottom]

"Invocation:
All hail Thee Thoth Hermes thrice greatest.
All hail Thee Prince of Men.
All hail Thee who standeth upon the head of Typhon.
Guide my hand that I may know.
Scribe of Gods - Lord of Devine[sic] Books,
I wish to know that I may serve.
All hail Thee Thoth Hermes."

I also have the same edition of the PKT book as does Cerulean and another edition with B&W images that adds:
"First Printing May 1960
Second Printing April 1962
Third Printing January 1966"

1966: $7.50 book as per the Advertising card

I have just received my copy of the University Books, Inc.
hardcover publication of The Pictorial Key to the Tarot.

$7.50 is the price printed on the inside flyleaf of the dustcover.

$5.00 is indicated as the price for the "Deck of Tarot Cards" :)

I would also like to suggest that the "colophon"
of University Books was not the Ankh symbol...
but rather a very nicely stylised Eye of Horus. ;)

pkt 1959 edition with color plates

I just won on e-bay a copy of the PKT University Books Edition from 1959 with colored plates ;-)
A photo of the item shows a red brown hard cover and another photo shows the book open with a colored picture of the moon.
It seems to have the same color as my (probably 1966) University Books deck.
So it should be a quite appropriate companion to the deck ;-)
Cant wait to receive it!

Excellent news, coredil ~ a real collector's item.
My book from 1966 will be a centerpiece for the
decks I have from University Books. My stash! :)

Colour plates for you? That's really great to hear!
I'm a little jealous, but then I have all three of the
Eden Gray books, first editions with dust covers...
hehehe

coredil

Fulgour your jealousy flatters me (dont know if its correct, in german they say: schmeicheln) ;)
As soon as I receive the PKT, I will report.

pkt from 1959 received ... with Lovers card!

It just came this morning.
And there was a real surprise with it: at the page 144-145 where the sun is described, I found a real Lovers Card inserted with the pink ankh on the back, a card from a University Books deck that probably the owner forgot :)
That was my daycard for today :)
Its a really fine little book.
I say little because I always thought it would be a big large book.
Its about 125 mm x 183 mm.
There is no dustcover and there is the name of the owner on the green page: Tamara P, November 29th 1963.
Thanks to Tamara for this nice Lovers card.
The book is very well preserved.
The color are the same as in my University Books deck, sure they do not shine as they are not printed on a glossy paper.
I just notice on some cards some little printmistakes. For example the red color is a bit shifted on 2 of cups, 5 swords, page swords, 2 pentacles.

So I am simply very glad to have received this book.

How are the b&w pictures in 1966 PKT?

@Fulgour:
Could you please tell me how are the b&w pictures in your 1966 University Books PKT?
Are they the original b&w drawings from Pamela or are they b&w prints from the colored cards?
I am looking for a PKT copy with good b&w original drawings that also are as big as the colored pictures from the 1959 PKT.

hi coredil

The University Books Inc., editions have "Half-Tones"
rather than Black & White "Line Drawings" for pictures.

Line drawings for each card (very good ones) may be
found in inexpensive used copies of the USGames PKT.

The PKT is printed without printed text on the backs
of the pages (nice way to pad out a book) to interfere
if you wanted to cut out and afix them to index stock.

Size is another matter. The half-tones from University
Books Inc., are of a generous proportion. What to do?
