Etruscan tarot: 9 of chalices

Description in booklet: A married couple in a moment of tenderness and happiness.

We've come to the near end of the cycle in the Suit of Chalices and in the Etruscan 9 of chalices, we have a couple, aristocrat in look, together with smiles on their faces. All 9 chalices are upright above them.

The artwork is taken from the Sarcophagus of the Married Couple dated 6th century B.C. in Tarquinia. For all of the liberated values of Etruscan women, the family and marital relationships appear to be close since the families and couples are buried together.

9 symbolizes nearing completion. Satisfaction and joy are felt and achieved after some usual relationship issues that have been sorted out. The card is similar to the 2 of Chalices except that in the two of chalices, the man and woman face each other, while here in the 9, the couple both face west. The statue source of the artwork even shows the female leaning toward the chest of the male which signifies extreme closeness, tenderness, oneness, unity, and feeling of safety in each other's arms.

All our chalices face upwards as if indicating that all is well and emotions of love are up on the horizon. We find meaning and purpose in the relationships we have and a connection beyond the spoken word ... pure touch and gestures and non-verbals are more than good enough to signify love and affection.

There is also a bit of sensuality insinuated by the card but no visual attempts at seduction ... one just has the feel that the intimacy longed for is felt not only physically but also sensually and spiritually.
