HearthCricket

Ooo Interesting!

No particular order:

Ferret

That's exactly how I picked mine too. :)

1. Greenwood.....my very personal deck.
2. Robin Wood.....my best reading, good buddy deck.
3. Morgan Greer...the deck with the best colors for psychic flash information.
4. International Icon....ditto, and the simplicity is genius.
5. Gilded....the deck most clients love to pick for readings.
6. Tarot of Transformation....my sink into the pictures and meditate deck.
7. Universal RWS...I've used it so much it is soft and lovely now.
8. Old English....sweet deck, and my introduction to reading a non RWS deck.
9. Halloween...because it always makes me smile.
10. Vacchetta...so beautiful, and readable. Hard pick between the Soprafino or the Vacchetta...but the people in the Vacchetta are so charming and talkative.

So it's interesting that a lot of the top ten lists are similar to the AT Top Ten... especially interesting because of all the speculation made about what the list "should" include.

My top 10 are the decks that I have worked with that made the most significant impact on me as a reader in no particular order are:

Aquarian - My first deck
Legend - The deck that taught me the value of a book/deck relationship
Thoth - The deck I began using (badly in retrospect) to do public readings
Rider Waite - Finally turned to it when I wanted to "get serious"
Cosmic Tribe - started working with ecstatic spiritual experience and there was the perfect deck to coincide with that
Secret - This deck has been everywhere and told me everything - i have even on occasion listened
Fey - the first deck that I felt I had a strong emotional connection to
Rhorig - The first deck I owned that I thought of as "beautiful"
World Spirit - The deck that for a long time seemed most in sync with my own spirituality
Gay Tarot - a rocky relationship at first but ultimately I found a great deal of insight in its

Rosanne

These are the decks I like most. They are not my best decks- because I would have to put the Noblet on the list first, followed by the The Classic Tarot (Della Rocca) or Le Tarot de la Rea.
These 10 decks I just really like......
Bosch Tarot
Fantastic Menagerie
Golden Botticelli
Kazanlar Tarot
Medieval Scapini
Osho Zen
Phantasmagoric Theatre Tarot
RWS Giant
Universal Tarot
Visconti Gold

Thanks Debra!

Because I have four shoe boxes, I conceive of tarot decks in four categories. Those on this list I love most.

The ones I read with:
Rider Waite Smith
Victoria Regina
Golden Tarot
Victorian Romantic

Art tarots:
David's Tarot
Rotin Tarot

Historical tarots:
Soprafino
Vandenborre Bacchus

Whimsy:
Jacques Vieville

The deck I most wish I had:
Bill's Marseille

And I think I will never give these up:
Ten cards from a 19th century Conver deck (probably 1880)

Shade made an interesting point about personal lists so far including a lot of the same decks that have been voted onto the "top ten" on the Aeclectic site.

So FYI--here are the decks that have appeared on the Aeclectic Tarot "Top Ten" lists.

Prior to 2005, there was only one annual "top ten" list. Beginning in 2005, there were two annual lists.

So this first list includes every deck that was voted "Top Ten of All Time" at least once in 2005, 2006 or 2007.

Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot
DruidCraft Tarot
Fey Tarot
Gilded Tarot
Golden Tarot
Rider-Waite Tarot
Robin Wood Tarot
Tarot of Dreams
Tarot of Prague
Universal Waite Tarot
Victorian Romantic Tarot
World Spirit Tarot

And this list below includes the other decks--these appeared at least once on the "Top 10" of 1999-2004 or on the "Top 10 of the year" 2005-2007 but are not on the first list

I figure we are looking at decks we have rather than ..? - because if not, the wooden Kashmiri is a real top ten for me....

Because I wouldn’t feel complete without the big three:
Marseille (Dodal)
Thoth (the early Müller large sized one – but with an added UCH card !!)
Original Waite-Smith

For reading:
BBC
Kitty Kahane
Pearls of Wisdom

Just because I love them:
De la Rea (the most beautiful deck of all time !)
Genius and Very Bright Too Also
Aubrey Beardsley
Wannabe (the funniest deck in the world !

ed: and my near miss (fell off my copy and paste !!!) Liber T
