Nah! The Queens are pretty normal RWS fare. I am NOT designing women's clothes! (altho if you look at the revised Men of the Suits {post # 68} you can see my costume designing past starting to creep in ....) })

A wry spirit did say he thought the Wands Queen looked like a man in drag, tho!

They both look like men in drag.

cooking is SUCH a drag!

They both look like men in drag.

Oh, well! LOL! :D

Actually, IMHO, they don't have enough eye make-up to look like drag queens.

The Queen of Cups will be getting another dolphin on her throne!

I now have all the Majors, the Aces, and the Court cards finished.

42 out of 78 completed! Now the Pips from Twos through Tens!

I don't think the Queens look like Drag Queens. The Cups Queen looks like she's not wearing any makeup at all, while the Wands Queen looks like her RWS counterpart - a very handsome woman.

ACTUALLY - I have a SMALL issue with the smile on the Queen of Cups. It seems to be slightly in the wrong place... Hard to explain, but...

I think the chin on the Queen of Cups is jutting out too much. Her face looks as if she's about to do something positively evil!

Maybe she's trying to lift the veil with her psychic powers? LOL!!!!!

40 shades of gray ....

Just a note - several people pm'd me about the RWS copyright and such. I am not a lawyer and I can't answer the questions ... I can only give my opinion!

A E Waite died in 1942 + 70 years = 2012
Pamela Coleman Smith died in 1951 + 70 years = 2021

USG could claim there are 9 more years until the illustrations go into the public domain.

Whenever Rider & Son became part of Random House Waite's heirs sold the copyright to them, so it can be argued that the original copyright holders sold their rights away. USG bought them in 1971, I think? All very complicated and gray-area legal stuff.

So, rather than wait until 2013, or 2022, or even 2042 (!), I am going to do my own illustrations. If for some reason the RWS illustrations go public next year I will insert them into my book and use my created ones for my men's book only.
