"Companies" can afford to if they are large enough.
You'll find that small independent developers, like myself, just don't have the money & time to cover all the mobile platforms out there.
Why did I pick iOS? Here's 3 good articles which help explain:
http://techcrunch.com/2013/11/16/the-state-of-the-art/
http://andrewchen.co/why-android-de...the-best-new-apps-are-all-going-iphone-first/
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Android-Piracy-DRM-Dead-Trigger-Google-PLAY,16497.html
The last article about the piracy problem should be of concern to the Deck Artists out there.
Best to focus on one, make it as good as it can be and support it well.
I hoping that this thread will help myself and others make their Apps as good as they can be.
Callanish
But all of those articles are by people who are pro ios, they are biased. It's not a careful comparison of both by someone attempting to be neutral. The last part is not true, there is an Android Application Licensing service and some of the digital tarot decks I own check you have a licence to use when you open them (especially from the major publishing houses). You sometimes need a constant internet connection to use them (to check you are entitled, which is a pain to be truthful) People have jail broken iphones with apps they have put on or copied off themselves, it happens in both areas.
I think you are being short sighted ultimately. Yes when you start out perhaps focus on one but I was a big fan of your site in it's early days and spent quite a lot of money on it but it has no Android presence. I found alternatives with websites and Android support. At which point is the cost /time of making an app outweighed by the loss of Android customers / revenue because there will be a point that happens. There is a lot of people with those very cheap tablets with Android and the play store and suddenly lots of tarot / lenormand / oracle apps with a pay per spread service included, it's not a coincidence. They are a total rip off ultimately but there is business there.
However I should add that outside of the Android / ios apps, I wouldn't personally bother with Windows or Blackberry 10, just not enough users / revenue spending to make it worthwhile.
I like to be able to use decks on both my Android/ ios devices and willing to pay for those apps for the premium or pro level as I use them often. I do feel negatively about brands / companies/ decks /apps with no Android presence in terms of loyalty. It's going to become an increasingly competitive market in the tarot / oracle /lenormand app field, just make sure you don't get left behind because your products are nicely designed and great ideas ultimately
