Hey! Deck publishers!

SunChariot

I am still not sure this is a good idea. As I do think it would be hard to get a consensus. It feels to me right now that there is a good variety of deck sizes, border sizes, some decks with keyworls some without. There is a good variety now and so that everyone can find decks that meet their needs.

My concern is that is we could get deck publishers to change and create only certain types of decks. that some of that would be lost. It 60$ of you all liked one thing and I was in the 40%, companies might shop making the kinds of decks that I prefer and it could get hard to find them. Now there is freedom for anyone to find all that they want.

BUT if I had to say two things, it bothers me when the print the company name of the front fo the deck, eg US Games. When i am using a spieritual tool, I do not want to be reminded of commercialism. It's like I am trying to work from a sould place and then someone shoved a connercial in my face. To me that is not the place for it, on the front of the cards.

And also I have had decks where the paint was not completely dry when shipped and I had to try to pry the cards apart slowly. One card, the paint came off and I had to colour it in later.

But as for the rest of it like large cards or small cards, borders or not, ....those are personal taste adn I think things are best as they are not where we all can find lots of decks that meet our needs and tastes.

Well, I think a poll is the best way

If there were just a few issues ATers felt more of a consensus about (like HUGE borders that make a deck larger than is comfortable for most, JUST because of borders), I think it would be worth the publishers knowing about. I certainly would not want to take away choices for readers, but if there are a few issues that the majority of readers would rather not have or have (LARGE borders, just good cardstock as in cardstock that holds up no matter whether laminated or not, stiff or not, but just isn't the kind that peels easily), why not? Creatively, I think there will always be types of decks and many that go outside more traditional boxes (changes in the names of suits for example). I don't want to take that from anyone. But I know there are decks that a large percentage of people don't like for a very specific reason that a publsher could change or that at least could consider. I think huge borders are one of them.

All I know for positively sure is that Lo Scarabeo decks are the perfect size and card stock to suit me and that great big decks and floor tile thick card stock absolutely displease me. Most everything else I can work with.

People who want big cards because they feel the smaller ones make little details too hard to see----are they afraid they're going to miss some symbolism? Because not every single little detail means anything. You might not be missing a thing.

Just speaking for myeslf, the details are where i get 90% of my answer. The answers for me come from the image and not the image as a whole necessarily, but I do tend to separate the image into its parts/details. Depends a lot on how you read of course. Not that every little detial means something each and every time, but often enough something in it does.

Also I find that small images with detail do not tend to photograph as well for me. And I do send photos of all the cards that come up in a reading. (since I only read for others online)

And hey I'm coming up on 60 sometime soon, so whatever makes it easier to see clearly is good,. Short of pullling out a magnifying glass. Which I have been known to do in restauranmts to see the menus more clearly. LOL

Griz - a lot of the borders added spoil the cards. There is also the matter of not doing what the ARTISTS wanted. Mystic Dreamer is a case in point. the artist's borders were way better than the ones Llewellyn tacked on. I seem to recall other artists here muttering about that.

And the Maroon borders are really annoying. It isn't the size of the art in a case like that - it's just - it is such a waste of space and of cardboard, come to that.

The St Petersburg you really CAN'T see the art - that said, it is supposed to be pretending to be miniatures, so that's tricky.

I am trying to set up the poll re borders now.

FYI, US Games IS watching....not that I think they have an issue with borders, but they are checking out this thread and will be watching for polls. Not a little bird will be alerting the other publishers as well. I am so not about changing any artist's work, I just like it to be showcased as well as possible and that's seeing the artwork first and having it on decent stock (no matter what type, just the kind that lasts beyond a shuffle or two). So borders first POLL, which I hope to have up soon (never done a poll before, so pmd Solandia). If anyone else thinks they can get a poll up faster, and I think Baylys did a great job at summing up wording in earlier posts, please go for it. I just care we all get to share all our preferences.

LoS watches, too.

:))) Gregory!

Well, at least if they look at and think about, I would be happy. Now if I knew Llewellyn and some of the others were here too.....

OK AT PEEPS...the poll is OPEN!

I hope you will cast your preference and feel free to put in your comments for examples. I like the idea of starting a New Year at least sharing our thoughts with publishers. What they decide to do, or not do, we may not control, but at least we will get our say!
