I Tarocchi Egiziani ?

Parzival

This is truly a beautiful deck. The minor arcana makes sense to me, since it is consistent with a numerological approach for 1-10, followed by the 4 courts. But the order of the major arcana is a riddle to me, and, since my Italian is limited to listening to Puccini and sipping chianti, the 200-page guidebook might as well be hieroglyphics in the middle ages. I did manage to re-arrange the majors into a 12-set of the zodiac and a 10-set of the planets, including Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Fun and interesting. Still the original order of the major arcana, I through XXI, and then LXXVIII to end, makes little sense to me. Anyone out there have the same problem, and anyone out there understand the major arcana original order? Any suggestions as to how to work with theTarocchi Egiziani?

Is this the one with text by Laura Tuan?

If so, after I come back from work, I'll try to link to previous discussions...

I'm trying to remember if some of us discussed this beautiful deck.

By Di Vecchi editions? If so, it is an Etteilla style...

gotta love this beauty

It's an "Etteilla" deck, Egyptian-style, from Italia.
I made a check-list of the Majors in Etteillian :)

Hope that helps to begin to unlock the keys.

I love the deck art and the fact of the keywords on the deck...and did you notice the heiroglyphic symbols done in the margins? I can only recognize "Ra's" symbol so far, as I'm just a beginning student of such symbolic language...

Would love to also hear more from fans of the deck.

Thanks to Cerulean and Fulgour for their specific leads as I try to understand the order of the Egiziani majors. James Revak's extensive chart (13 pages) comparing Etteilla's majors and the Marseilles' majors is invaluable and should be known to all Tarot historians. Now I'm beginning to make sense of Etteilla's scheme and the Egiziani scheme. Sometimes it's important not just to feast the eyes on the images, but we always return to them, as from periphery to center. Incidentally, Etteilla gave a picture of the Creation in his first 8 trumps, following with the 4 virtues and good and evil in the next 6 (fom cosmos to man?) James Revak makes this much clear. XV through LXVII will take time to fathom...
