Ceremonial Magick and Tarot

Babalon Jones

I have the Portable Magic book by Tyson, and have to say, the technique really works if you have the ability to visualize the cards in your mind in great detail. It helps if the deck you use is very vibrantly colored in the appropriate colors snd it encourages the use of pocket size decks (thus more portability as you can do the layouts in smaller spaces).

This book too may be of use to you. it is meant to be used with the Magickal Tarot by Anthony Clark, but is interesting in its own right with any GD type deck.

A couple of other suggestions:

Robert Wang's small, practical book, The Secret Temple, about setting up your altar, magical implements and other accoutrements. No tarot in it, though.

Willian Gray's Magical Ritual Methods, which has a little on tarot and a lot about the conduct of rites. Caveat, though: some people here don't like Gray. I liked his Ladder of Lights but was less thrilled by his other stuff. Still, this one covers the ground.

Robin Skelton's Talismanic Magic, which doesn't mention tarot, but specific cards could certainly be used as Abrac suggests, perhaps in conjunction with the astrological or gemstone talismans Skelton describes.

ETA: The book, "Astral Doorways," by J.H. Brennan, covers numerous types of "doorways" for entering the astral plane, one of which is tarot

Then there is Donald Kraig's "Modern Magick: Eleven Lessons in the High Maigickal Arts." It touches briefly on tarot but mostly covers the same territory as the above books in more detail. Some people love to hate Kraig, though, because they think he plagarized Francis Barrett's "The Magus." I have both books but haven't done my own comparison. Probably a bit advanced for what you're after, though.

Yup, added them to my wish list. I have had the Kraig's book for a few years, but never got around to reading it partly due to lack of interest on the topic at the time and also, as you hinted it seemed rather an advanced book for me. But now my interest on the topic is back, so I will be reading it after LMD's ToCM and Satanic Bible. Thanks.

This book looks a very good book too. I have the Magickal Tarot deck which does not get used, but will add the book to my wish list / to buy list. Thank you for your info.

In the past I had a couple of books on CM in the bookshelf, and a bit of passing interest on the topic. However, my interest on CM has returned with vengeance recently after an event which gave me concrete belief that invoking Deity via Ceremonial Magick prior to Tarot readings can attribute to getting more accurate answers for some unknown / inexplicable reasons.

The Satanic Bible's available free online. I can understand wanting to have a copy on hand for reference, but if you just want to look through it you can download it here:

The Satanic Rituals by the same author might also be of interest. The section "Concerning the Rituals" is peppered with useful information on ceremonial magic. Here's a download link:

It looks very interesting read. I have a few books in digital form, but still prefer paper copies for flicking pages, underlining and writing noting in them.
