Very Unlike Kabbalah

Fulgour

I've been thinking about the Exaltations of the Nodes.

For the South Node, exalted in Sagittarius:
Total Solar Eclipse

For the North Node, exalted in Gemini:
Total Lunar Eclipse

Pretty cool, huh? :)

Christmas was originally the Chaldean festival in honor of the
birth of Zoroaster, the son of Astarte, the "Queen of Heaven."
Zoroaster is pictured on the ancient monuments as a child
in his mother's arms, each with a circle around their heads.
This circle was the hieroglyphic representation of the Sun and
also of the name Zoroaster, literally: the "Seed of the Woman."

The Winter Solstice

The major winter festival that the ancient pagans celebrated was
held when the Sun reached the point farthest south of the equator,
beginning Dec 21st, and ending Dec 25th. The winter solstice is the
renewing of the Sun every year in the Northern hemisphere.
The Sun appears at its most southerly position, directly overhead
at the Tropic of Capricorn (23 degrees 27 minutes south latitude).

This is one of my favourite parts. Thanks to whoever asked! :)

I have been obsessed with your great poem Fulgour on the Phoenician Alphabet, and have been reading such as David Sacks "The Alphabet" and
Richard Firmage's 'The Alphabet Abecedarium' and others. In regards to the above link which I am pleased to have; the author says 'pe' means throwstick,
but in the books I have been reading it means mouth/blow as your poem; but 'Gimel' means throwstick, not camel as previously thought. My confusion is that I cannot find a reference to 'bridge' or 'reward'. I can see a throwstick as '..and the means to proceed forward'. Would you be able to tell me where you were able to find those word meanings for Gimel? I have found the whole subject fascinating- especially now that I know that the Hebrew and Phoenician alphabets were very similiar, and that latest evidence shows an Egyptian influence circa 2000BC. Thanks in anticipation ~Rosanne

Hi

Hang onto your hat when you tour this site...
THE BIBLE WHEEL by Richard Amiel McGough
Following the clicker-clinks on the right hand side:
under "Navigation" the "View Spoke" allows
individual letter selections
and then on each page, down on the right is
"Properties" where you'll find the "Literal Meanings"

for Gimel the keywords given here are:
Camel ~ Reward ~ Bridge

Thanks Fulgour,I would willingly take up your offer of signed poem. It has come to mean a lot to me :D. My garbled question comes from the startled surprise of 'b' Bayt/beth =house. The Amu (asiatics) in Egyptian eyes were desert Bedouin and they carved some letters in a cliff at Wadi el Hol and the 'b' could be Baalat=Lady whom they thought was Hathor but is Astarte- blue gowned star crowned etc etc our High Priestess of Tarot. It started me on this Alphabet trail to see if this was an early type of Tarot. That is not explained very well I mean a picture alphabet like as in A is for apple etc etc that we use now. I have not even got to the Astrology/astronomy aspect of my jumbled thoughts. Hence I wondered why you numbered the Fool Taw/tav? I am trying to see the 'mark' of the Fool lol.
An interesting coincidence is this- Astarte is said to be mother to 70 children. The Hebrew names of the Alphabet(22) are preserved and used repeatedly in the Septuagint(latin for seventy). In Lamentations the Hebrew letter names are used to order the text's verses(Greek translation of Hebrew bible). I found that amazing. Its like a crazy circle coming back at me all the time hehe. Thanks for your help. ~Rosanne

The Phoenician letter Taw is a simple "X" shape,
which I have come to see in the "criss-crossed"
form of Le Fol. Hebrew's Tav looks like him too.

As for "astrology" it helps to consider everything as
WRONG to begin with, and then sort it out yourself.
House-Sign-Planet-Exaltation "speak" on their own.

Bad Boys

Walking through one Card as an example...

XV Le Diable corresponds to the 15th letter
Samekh which means
"Foundation, Support, Uphold"
and is associated with the 9th Solar month
Sagittarius ~ ruled by Jupiter (Judgement),
and where the South Lunar Node is exalted
opposite the North Node in Gemini: Le Chariot.

The ancient Mesopotamians created the exaltations,
and modern astrology has no clue what they mean.
Exaltations are like facets on a flawless gemstone...
not some horoscope gobbledegook, but SACRED.
As an exaltation, the South Node in Sagittarius
represents a total solar eclipse ~ also very sacred.

Somewhat more plausible, don't you think, than
a horn-headed capricornal goatling of boogyland?

ps: Jupiter (Judgement) is exalted in Cancer:
VIII Justice ~ and the home sign of the Moon.

Rosanne

So the Mesopotamians said a planet was 'exalted' when it was within the section of the zodiac belt assigned to a sign. 'Exalted means it has its greatest power and influence in that sign? So Jupiter has the most power when it is in Cancer; or Jupiters personality influences Cancer the most. Where I get mixed up is.. Jupiter rules Sagittarius so why does 'ruling' over the sign exert less power and influence than 'exalting'.
Oh Dear :D I think I should go and read something more about it all- I have this strange feeling I am been TweddleDummer...I agree it is all about 'Sacred' tho, I see the jemstone with its 22 facets, but their faces are muddled. ~Rosanne

Fulgour

It's not in any of the books.

First, there is astrology, and then there's astrology.
Since way back there's been two sides to it all...
Sacred astrology is not about favourable aspects,
so when books refer to exaltations they are saying
this is good and that is bad... which isn't the case.

Exaltatons exist on a level above the daily horoscopes.
They are not the "honoured guests" from the books...

What the Mesopotamians were doing was worshipful.
The idea is something like, where all the planets were
when Goddess created our special place in the cosmos.
If you just let them be there, and respect the concept,
the way they "work" is very simple. They simply exist.

Here are the 12 Months from the Phoenician and Hebrew
calendars, with their corresponding Major Arcana cards:

Nisanu (Nissan) Aries : Letter 5 (He): V The Hierophant
Ayaru (Iyar) Taurus : Letter 6 (Waw): VI The Lovers
Simanu (Sivan) Gemini : Letter 7 (Zayin): VII The Chariot

Du'uzu (Tammuz) Cancer : Letter 8 (Heth): VIII Justice
Abu (Av) Leo : Letter 9 (Teth): IX The Hermit
Ululu (Elul) Virgo : Letter 10 (Yod): X The Wheel of Fortune

Tashritu (Tishri) Libra : Letter 12 (Lamedh): XII The Hanged Man
Arach-Samna (Cheshvan) Scorpio : Letter 14 (Nun): XIV Temperance
Kislimu (Kislev) Sagittarius : Letter 15 (Samekh): XV The Devil

Shabatu (Shevat) Capricorn : Letter 16 (Ayin): XVI The Tower
Tebetu (Tevet) Aquarius : Letter 18 (Tsade): XVIII The Moon
Adaru (Adar) Pisces : Letter 19 (Qoph): XIX The Sun

*

If these appear to be out of order to you, that is because when
The Golden Dawn made Aleph=Zero they also moved all the
other cards back by one letter, so that all 22 cards are shifted,
and this was done by them as part of their Magical Kabbalah.

*

Now, in the order of the 22 Letters, we see the 12 Signs-Months:

1
2
3
4
5 Nisanu (Nissan) Aries : Letter 5 (He): V The Hierophant
6 Ayaru (Iyar) Taurus : Letter 6 (Waw): VI The Lovers
7 Simanu (Sivan) Gemini : Letter 7 (Zayin): VII The Chariot
8 Du'uzu (Tammuz) Cancer : Letter 8 (Heth): VIII Justice

Just as we began with Aleph, the "idea" of The Creator, and added
three very important ingredients to make the Signs-Months work,
as the Signs-Months were presented, their were needed additions.

We can see the 7 traditional planets in the sky just by looking up,
and the Phoenician alphabet has 7 Letters to go with the Planets,
which are called Beth, Gimmel, Daleth, Kaph, Pe, Resh, and Taw.

Here is where these Planets appear in the order of the 22 Letters:

1
2 Beth
3 Gimmel
4 Daleth
5 Nisanu (Nissan) Aries : Letter 5 (He): V The Hierophant
6 Ayaru (Iyar) Taurus : Letter 6 (Waw): VI The Lovers
7 Simanu (Sivan) Gemini : Letter 7 (Zayin): VII The Chariot
8 Du'uzu (Tammuz) Cancer : Letter 8 (Heth): VIII Justice
9 Abu (Av) Leo : Letter 9 (Teth): IX The Hermit
10 Ululu (Elul) Virgo : Letter 10 (Yod): X The Wheel of Fortune
11 Kaph
12 Tashritu (Tishri) Libra : Letter 12 (Lamedh): XII The Hanged Man
13
14 Arach-Samna (Cheshvan) Scorpio : Letter 14 (Nun): XIV Temperance
15 Kislimu (Kislev) Sagittarius : Letter 15 (Samekh): XV The Devil
16 Shabatu (Shevat) Capricorn : Letter 16 (Ayin): XVI The Tower
17 Pe
18 Tebetu (Tevet) Aquarius : Letter 18 (Tsade): XVIII The Moon
19 Adaru (Adar) Pisces : Letter 19 (Qoph): XIX The Sun
20 Resh
21
22 Taw

There are 5,040 ways, mathematically, to put any 7 things in order:

1 x 1 = 1
2 x 1 = 2
3 x 2 = 6
4 x 6 = 24
5 x 24 = 120
6 x 120 = 720
7 x 720 = 5,040

No traditional text exists to say what order the Planets appear in the
alphabet, and so most systems rely on Kabbalah. Kabbalah is unique.
Think for yourself which planet may (should) go where. You decide.

For myself what I did was look out the window, and in order of their
distance from Earth: Moon Venus Mars Mercury Sun Jupiter Saturn.

That's my order for the Planets, and even if I am wrong, I am happy.
Plus, I can look up to the heavens and see that they are actually so.

*

Since we now know which Letters go with the Planets and Signs-Months,
we can see that along with Aleph there are 2 other Letters for Elements.

Letter 1 is Aleph, traditionally given the attribute of Air (Mind).
Letter 13 is Mem, traditionally given the attribute of Water (Body).
Letter 21 is Shin, traditionally given the attribute of Fire (Soul).

*

And so here are all 22 Letters with their corresponding attributions:

1 ALEPH
2 Beth
3 Gimmel
4 Daleth
5 Nisanu (Nissan) Aries : Letter 5 (He): V The Hierophant
6 Ayaru (Iyar) Taurus : Letter 6 (Waw): VI The Lovers
7 Simanu (Sivan) Gemini : Letter 7 (Zayin): VII The Chariot
8 Du'uzu (Tammuz) Cancer : Letter 8 (Heth): VIII Justice
9 Abu (Av) Leo : Letter 9 (Teth): IX The Hermit
10 Ululu (Elul) Virgo : Letter 10 (Yod): X The Wheel of Fortune
11 Kaph
12 Tashritu (Tishri) Libra : Letter 12 (Lamedh): XII The Hanged Man
13 MEM
14 Arach-Samna (Cheshvan) Scorpio : Letter 14 (Nun): XIV Temperance
15 Kislimu (Kislev) Sagittarius : Letter 15 (Samekh): XV The Devil
16 Shabatu (Shevat) Capricorn : Letter 16 (Ayin): XVI The Tower
17 Pe
18 Tebetu (Tevet) Aquarius : Letter 18 (Tsade): XVIII The Moon
19 Adaru (Adar) Pisces : Letter 19 (Qoph): XIX The Sun
20 Resh
21 SHIN
22 Taw
