shuffling

All of riffle haters, you're making me feel guilty  however, I do try and keep damage to a minimum by only riffling the corners together, keeping bending to a minimum.

I have attempted lace shuffling (which is what I've always called slide shuffling), but my utter hopelessness has actually damaged cards that way  by splitting the cards at the edges (thank goodness I practised on a regular deck).

It is incredibly satisfying to riffle shuffle a deck imo, however lacing is so elegant that I really would love to learn. My grandad can do it flawlessly, however his attempts at teaching me were never successful :(

Cheers,

Asta

I always lace with tarot cards. It just seems to come more naturally to me.
After forming the question, what I do is to use the act of shuffling to enter or perpetuate a meditative state, trying as little as possible to influence interaction between the deck and my hands.
What always happens (for me at least!) is that the cards group together gradually until I end up lacing three, and then two piles of equal size one over the other, forming the complete deck ready to be cut by the querent.
Usually the deeper a state I can enter the quicker this process is.

I think riffle shuffling makes a deck looked  loved!

I do both, mostly lacing. But once in a while I do a riffle out of habit, used to be a dealer. But I like the way the cards feel when you'r lacing. I can sit in front of the tv and just shuffle, it's relaxing.

And shortens its life-expectancy. I lace, but I lace with largish chunks of the deck, not with individual cards moving at any time. It breaks up the combinations of the deck really well.

I used to be a casino dealer too and though I try to only do the lace method, sometimes I find myself doing the riffle and strip like it is a poker deck. lol...old habits die hard for sure, I even catch myself 'dusting off' when handling cash or dealing cards still ;)

FOr new decks though, I do the whole wash, riffle, and strip to get a good 'randomizing' done.

for those of you that are 'riffle haters', with practice, you can learn to do a nice riffle that doesn't do damage to the cards. I was taught that if you can hear the riffle, it is too hard...gentle is the secret, and the bridge is the most damaging part of that.

Never bridge a Tarot deck! I riffle but my decks stay nice and always still lie flat even after years of use. My daughter loves to bridge cards but it makes me grit my teeth. I don't let her do it to mine.

Hahah I do it too but only with a few of my decks.

Riffle. I love the sound it makes.
