RWS Page Pentacles hat - noblemans hat?

Hi all out there in cyberspace, I am up to the Page of Pentacles now (there's no stopping this gal!), was just reading on this site, how someone said it was a scholars hat, but surely it is a noblemans hat - showing he has high aspirations in life, which he hopes to put in motion (red) soon?

Any thoughts?

If we are to consider only the period dress of the Page, we have to take into consideration also that only nobility were allowed and could afford to be scholars during the Renaissance. So, yes, you would be correct in saying that a scholar would have been a member of the noble class.

Not all nobles were scholars, however: It is a case a A = B but B doesn't necessarily equal A.

True, true Fire one (I a fire sign myself), i guess alot of 'noble' scholars were just drinkers or womanisers on a free pay check, but glad to hear your confirmatory thoughts on the subject

Of course there is always the clergy, so we shouldn't say "only" the nobility
