Buddha Tarot - Siddhartha, The Future Emperor (IV. Emperor)

Master_Margarita

Here we have a young Siddhartha shooting his ancestral bow as he competes for the hand of Yasodhara. I'm thinking that this icon is supposed to depict the moment after Siddhartha has actually released the arrow, but I'm not convinced by the hand. I think his hand, to be in that position, should be holding the bowstring.

This card is interesting in that this is a "future" emperor. I think of the Tarot Emperor as being an older, authoritative man. The commentary states outright that this card is intended to represent future ptoential that is developing and is being misdirected by his father. In contrast to the Future Empress, this card represents an active individual who pursues what is desired. In a larger spread, the bow can be pointing to the object of desire on another card.
