These are general keywords, yes, so they would apply insofar as your intuition taking over. They're meant to give you a general 'feel' for a card's energy, so you can apply that in any given situation. That combined with a card's imagery is what can prompt you to just 'know' what a particular card means at that time = intuition! Good luck to you & remember that tarot is a life-long pursuit, but well worth the effort.
