Book Publishers often do this, I'm still waiting for a computer book that was supposed to be released in November. You may find other delays crop up during the year. The important thing is that they ARE publishing it, I still find that exciting. <g> Do you know how many people submit work and are refused publication? Of course you do!

Then lied to people who asked her about the source, saying she got it on a CD in Europe - when in fact I still have the email she sent me last year.

I feel all the more infringed that it was done in full knowledge of who I am and what I've already gone through. At least the first piracy in Germany was done by strangers. *sigh*

Having been betrayed by similar falseness in online "friends" myself, I can understand your feelings. This sort of betrayal is a consequence of the predictability and lack of imagination that drips off certain manipulators. They delight in "pulling one off" and feel a kind of pseudo omniscience that has nothing to do with any legitimate work or talent, as they don't possess the ability for such things.

The more they see of people who DO have ability and talent, the more cynical and bitter they get. It eats them, it destroys their intellect and creativity and swallows their ethics and conscience.

So, we let them be eaten. They cannot truly touch us, or anyone else, and they may not get what they deserve but they get what they pay for, which is an empty parody of life.

You have other loyal fans and supporters, and you are a positive influence and example for creativity, even through these piracy troubles.

I've just heard that in the U.S., if you send a CD with your contents of the website to the U.S. Library of Congress, they will assign you a number...but if U.S. Games is doing this for you, then you should have all copyrights taken care of in the U.S. The copyright 2002, 2003 note should be good.
Best wishes,

Re: Signed Decks

Sorry I'm jumping into this thread a little late... I was away on business for a chunk of September and October, and wasn't on the boards much. So I missed this post when it originally went up.

I have a question: if, once USG releases the Golden Tarot and we can get it in stock, would folks be willing to pay the standard price for the deck if the shrinkwrap was off? Unless USG is going to provide you with free boxes and cover shipping costs, Kat, it seems there'd be some notable expense in obtaining the boxes and subsequently shipping them back to North America. Conversely, I expect it wouldn't cost but a few dollars to take the (very flat and light) title cards out of the boxes, mail them to you, have you sign them, and mail them back. My only concern is that once the shrinkwrap is off of the box, there's a question (from the buyer's standpoint) about whether the deck has been "used" or not -- which wouldn't be the case in this situation.

Does this provide a workable and economical solution?

I figure that nomatter how we organise it, if buyers want signed decks, I've got to take off the shrinkwrap to sign them

As long as they also have the option of buying unsigned/still shrinkwrapped ones as an alternative, it's up to the buyer then

I doubt I'll be able to get hold of empty boxes from USGS, so I was thinking along the same lines - you can send me batches of boxes for signing, shouldn't be too expensive as they're probably pretty light...

I was just concerned that boxes would be more likely to suffer damage in transit -- either from crushing of the outer package if shipped "as is", or from the "flattening" process if they were sent in their collapsed form (unless they were received that way from USG to begin with).

Most of the signed decks I own have the artist's signature on the title card or similar, but as far as facilitating the distribution of signed copies of the Golden Tarot in North America, I actually have no particular objections to one method or the other, as long as buyers realize that the decks are new, and any "irregularities" (i.e., lack of shrinkwrap and/or unusal signs of "wear" to the outer box) are simply the result of the process.

I've been told that the box will be pretty sturdy.... First release is a "deluxe" version I think..

Should be OK to flatten them, I'd think. Or I could sign the "artist" card instead of box. I'm happy to do whatever buyers want.

I guess we can decide when we actually see the final product

Sounds good to me. No sense putting the cart before the horse. It will all be insanely great, one way or another.

Jeannette,

Thanks SO much for all your help & support of GT, btw... you were so good to me long before there was any inkling of it ever ending up as a saleable product - I'll never forget that!

warmest regards,

Ditto. I will never cease to be awed and inspired by the grace and class you showed (and continue to show) in the face of adversity, with the whole copyright situation. And we've appreciated your support in return.

With Grateful Thanks,
