Help! My Thoth deck dislikes me!

Girl Archer

It turns out to be more subtle than I thought. The phrase "Atu Ankh Amen" translates as "the Living Image of Amon" (King Tut). I seem to recall that "ankh" is associated with "life" or "living," so perhaps Atu simply means "image."

The final word, though, is in the Book of Thoth itself. There is a footnote to the section titled "The Atu of Tahuti" (page 35 in my edition) that reads:

"Atu: House or Key in Ancient Egyptian."

I don't believe it is an acronym for anything, so there is no expansion that I know of.

thank you Barleywine. I just noticed your post :)

I searched for this and it turned up some book called The Book of Thoth: A Short Essay on the Tarot of the Egyptians, Being the Equinox, Vol. 1.

Do you have any idea where I could find it in India?

I think EQUINOX is the name of the journals where it had been originally published in early - mid 1900s.

Now it is published as a book of its own.

I don't know, as I have never been to India in my whole life, but I am sure you could get it from eBay or Amazon online bookshop. Or you could ask other members in this forum who are from India for the information? I am sure there are some members from India.

Thanks, I will do that.Is this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOOK-OF-THO...295?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c90793fb7 the same book as the one you suggested, but with different covers?

The book was published during WWII, when paper was severely rationed. You could not easily publish books, but periodicals were fine. The Book of Thoth was originally published as part of AC's own journal, the Equinox.

As for where to buy it, Amazon is good, or you can find it online here:

That's the version I have.

Makes sense. Wow, thanks closrapexa :)

Anytime, especially now when I'm sipping vodka after a particularly bad day. :)

I actually envy new users. I still get excited about the Thoth every time I look at it, don't get me wrong, it is the Tarot love of my life... but there's nothing quite like the first ecstatic period. Good luck. :)
