Fairytale Tarot (MRP) -- Three of Cups

Master_Margarita

The Three of Cups is illustrated in this deck by the tale of The Three Princes and Their Beasts, which can be found here. This an inspired choice for a card that symbolizes harmony and cooperative relationships, because it also provides a clear glimpse into the shadow side of this card as well.

The three Princes are three brothers who, unlike so many fairy tales, are not in competition for a scarce resource (usually someone's youngest daughter). They cooperate like the Three Musketeers, all for one and one for all. Except their stepsister who is conspicuously excluded from the fun from the start (she goes hunting with them at the start of the story, but she doesn't end up with a loyal following of animals like the boys do). There is no clear reason why, and it's not surprising she ends up selling out her brother to the first force of evil that comes her way. Every tight group implies the exclusion of others. We see both forces at work in this story, and this card.
