Just seeing this, and VERY impressed. I have an academic background in Soviet art - mostly film but also print and sculpture - and these cards really capture the socialist-realist style while still incorporating Tarot archetypes and symbolism. Brilliant.

All ready for shipping

Ciao to all!
Now finally I received the boxes from typography and I'm ready for shipment.
I started to send email to all who has pre-ordered.
Unfortunately, the tests of rounding angles of the cards were not going well.
So the angles remains rectangular.

Thank you Alexander for all your effort in making the cards available! Square corners are great - collectors get to make their own decisions to either round the corners or simply leave them untouched.

Since this deck keeps getting mentioned in the Cultural Revolution deck threads, I thought it might help to bring it back so we can look at the imagery and see how much they share in similarities and how much they do not.

This deck to me speaks of dark, somber, depressed, deeply thinking about its subject manner. The Cultural Revolution deck does none of these things. Like i said in the CR Poll thread, maybe I am the only one who sees this, and maybe I am mistaken and Daniloff was in fact celebrating the Communist era.

Prudence, I think you are pretty close in your feelings. But the big take aways from using this deck as a comparision, are that Daniloff is a master of his craft, and also Russian. He is a man of immense skill, and can speak from inside the culture of which he is depicting through the lense of popular poster art. If we are judging on artistic merit alone, there is absolutely no comparison.

I agree in his artistic skills leaving those other deck creators in the dust. He conveys subtle but deep pain, even in the cards that sort of show a "happy face" as it relates to the Russian communist era. His work is powerful and bold yet subtle in all of the deep crannies it is shedding light upon.

I know he's said that he didn't want to outshine his other tarot deck, but if he published a 78 card version with boldly styled pips and courts (like the old Italian and TdM decks), I'd have a really, REALLY hard time resisting (hint! hint!).
