The card art could represent the potential downside of a relationship. He has let his guard down and she has the knife. When we give into passion we can get tunnel vision and we don't see the pain coming until it's too late.

The book says: "They have evidently just ceased to fight" implying each other but that is not necessarily true it could mean fighting someone else, and judging by the way these two behave throughout the rest of the suit I am sure it means others. The embrace is clearly the result of sexual tension. I think these two get off on some Stanley Kubrick sense of excitement.
