While the classic French woodcut Marsies have a lot of book discussion of their visual symbolism, I've seen little related to the Italian soprafino decks by Dellarocca, Dotti, and Avondo.

A while back, Mark Filipas wrote an essay for Pasteboard Masquerade claiming that the Mars cards' objects correlated to letters of the Hewbrew alphabet. I can't find this essay anymore, does someone have a copy?
How much of the esoteric content was altered or replaced in the engraved decks, and how much was just the artists' fancy? I notice small details like a possible Masonic apron on the cobbler Bagatto card, but I don't recognize much else in the changes.
