My pleasure Eugim

And now.... please explain it to me.
I think it refers to the Sun King of France, or, has a 'regal' meaning.

It reads to me as a space-filling motif derived from a sun symbol. The overall effect is one of a gentle texture, like a sheet-metal ceiling. The fleur de lys makes it seem specifically French. More than that? I'm not sure what other conclusion you could draw.

Bernardin & J. Jerger back

Here are two card backs I wanna share:

The first smaller one is from a Suzanne Bernardin.
It's what is called in French "vert marbrť".

The second one is from a J. Jerger Tarot de BesanÁon. And that would be "rose marbrť":

Sorry for the stains, but I didn't makes them =;-)
they are genuine antique and came with the cards =:-)

Question Chosson - Payen card backs

Is there a direct link between Chosson and Payen, since they both use the same card back pattern?

Here's the Payen 1735 and the Payen 1760 from the Cary Yale collection:

Question cards back chronology

Hello all,

A work has to be done for classification of cards backs.

I started it on my side and problem comes to put a date (or most probably a period of time) for each cards back design.

All volunters would be appreciated for this.

But a cards back design is not specific to a specific card maker.
Rather specific to a period of time (and may be a country).

Enquiery is launched....

Thumbs up Cards Back study pool

Hi Yves,

That sounds like a very good idea.
We could set up a shared account on Google docs, and give the password to those who want to participate. That way everybody who has info to add can access it.

I imagine something like coredil did here: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=57491 for the Marteau Grimaud TdM.

Does that sounds like a plan?

Cheers
RafaŽl

ps: I just received a TdB Grimaud from ca. 1900 this morning. Thanks to coredil's threath I'm able to date it!
