Deviant Moon - Five of Wands

Under a full moon, four citizens of the Wands tribe do battle. A full moon is often associated with times of madness, lunacy and the baser animal traits overwhelming rational thought (e.g werewolves).

The RWS shows five combatants each holding a Wand. In the DM, there are 4 combatants with the fifth Wand standing alone like a trophy on a mound. Whilst the 'battle' wands are bare and lifeless (or have been moulded into clubs), the fifth Wand is alive, planted and sprouting a flower.

Are the combatants fighting for this beautiful Wand? Is it a time of scarcity, and therefore a battle for survival? Have they wasted their own wands and now fight for the last valuable one?

It's everyone for themselves. They are all one tribe, and yet they fight their fellow tribesman. Perhaps an indication of a group breakdown? Infighting weakens the tribe, leading to paranoia, mistrust and ultimately break-up.

Apparent paranoia, mistrust & lunacy is seen through out the deck....

But look closely...are they really fighting to the death? Or really fighting, period?

Their grins, while maniacal , seem to lend a sense of lightheartedness to the "battle". Also, they seem to be holding their wands in a type of pose (yes, the phrase "strike a pose" comes to mind), like it's a photo shoot instead of a skirmish.

Then there are the colors in the wands...again, I don't get a sense of battle, but of just messing around. Of course, there is always that one person who goes too far and ends up hurting someone!

As for the guy that's a bit of a distance away...he's in the fight but not of it...he actually has the better view and can strategize better, especially if this were a real fight.

Deviant Moon V wands

Im not clear what these creatures are trying to accomplish here. The creature in the back holds his wand like a pool cure. The ends of his wand are shaped almost like a hoe on both ends. seems like it would be better for weeding than fighting. He has it over and crossed the green creature in red almost in an attempt to turn him around toward him. The creature in the bottom left has a wand that is thick sort of like a baseball bat with thorns sticking upward and a dull end. A good tool for hitting or stabbing the end is sharp and pointed. The thorns on the bat will do him no good and if he wanted to kill his opponent he could just stab him with the pointy end of his wand. The green figure is in the worst position has what looks like a cut off broom stick. Not much of a weapon but better than nothing. All in all, they are all ill equipted as far a weapons go.
Although it is winter, the little wand is blooming being nurtured by the light of the moon. The bank is green from the rain. Maybe it is earlly spring and the wand is like a tulip- one of the first flowers of early spring. At least there is hope in all this chaos.
