Kyanite - disthene
has anyone ever used this stone??? the name is kyanite (because of it's beautifull blue color), another name for it is disthene (because of it different grades of hardness) it's a blue stone with a pearly shine...there also exist a green variant, a black, a white, a pink and a yellow one...the one i have is a blue one...very beautifull...it has different grades of hardness - that's why it's diffucult to handle, i have a little rough piece - wearing around my throat. i recently bought this one...and i didn't find it in my book but i already love it...it's a very gentle stone and very good for your throat chakra, for your third eye chakra, communication and for meditating... i found a nice site about this stone yesterday: http://www.kyanitegems.com/home.htm others: http://www.mahatma.co.uk/crystal_ma...als/kyanite.htm http://www.rainbowcrystal.com/crystal/gems/kyanite.html http://www.luckygemstones.com/kyani...ra_gemstone.htm http://www.bestcrystals.com/kyanite.html http://www.metastones.com/finalweb/Kyanite.htm i can only recommend it!!!

It's a nice stone, for all the reasons you've already mentioned. Melody says it is the only stone other than citrine that is self-clearing. I have a couple pieces of royal blue kyanite, and I have also seen it in black at a local shop. -- Kyrielle

I don't actually own a piece of the black kyanite. I am not really that attracted to it personally. The shop that sells it is a rock shop, not metaphysically oriented. It sells kyanite in sets with one sample of blue and one of black. The shapes of the samples are sort of splinter-shaped -- not splintery, but thin and jagged. Since shape is important to me when I choose a stone, maybe that is why I was never attracted to those samples. My big piece of blue kyanite is rectangular with slightly rounded ends. It is about a half inch across and about two and a half inches long. It is very nice to hold. I also have a little piece, also blue, maybe a quarter of an inch across and half an inch long. I'm not sure how the self-clearing aspect of kyanite works. I have never felt mine to be in need of the usual regular clearing maintenence on my part. I don't program it for anything in particular, either. That's one annoying thing about Melody: Under citrine you read it's one of two self-clearing stones, but the other, kyanite, isn't listed. And under kyanite you read the same thing, and it doesn't mention citrine. That book is so informative, yet so maddening! -- Kyrielle

I aqured two pieces of kanite taht are extremely diferent although th same. one is a rectangular dark blue peice. When i say dark blue, i mean its almost black. when you take a look at the side of it you can see the layers that have built up on each other. it not a perfect box though, it has some unique bumps and niches adn even some sedimentary deposit on on side. Rowyal blue is a good iefiniton but i prefer to call it midnight blue. the otehr peices is much more crystaline and irregular. It's also much ligher. not to say that neither piece does not vibrate with me, but the lighter peice is less, well, dense in the overall feeling of use. the smooth sie is very similar to the other piece and makes me wonder how the small dark blue piece was formed, it seems so, compresed. Kyanite is an interesting stone, i use it a clensing stone and since it retains no negative energy (thats what the metaphysical store had on their bins) recharging it is the only concern i have. I charge it busing candles and other stones, but soon the moon will be full again, i will use its energy as well. Kyanite works well as a clearing stone for your tarot decks.
