Someone in my room

I've been waking up not long after falling asleep with a sense that someone is in my bedroom. It's happenened quite frequently lately, at least twice a week for the last month and quite a few times before that as well. I start coming into consiousness and as I do I have a sense of dread/fear and feel like I need to catch my breath. I get an over-riding feeling that there is someone in the room with me and I have to wake myself up fully, tell myself it is okay, and shift positions before I can think of going back to sleep.
My door is always closed and there is definately no one coming into my room whilst I am sleeping.

Anyone have any ideas why I would be having this feeling? I notice it especially happens and almost instantly when I fall asleep on my back, but not exclusively when I do.
I'm thinking it's either my unconsious dealing with me having someone trying to be in my life that I don't want in it, but not fully able to let go, or that there may be a spirit linked to the room, or maybe me.

Any ideas would be appreciated..I like to think that I am pretty comfortable with the spirit world so don't understand the fear feeling I have it is that..

it can be as you tihnk, that possibly it has something to do with someone trying to be in your life....

or it can be a spirit, or a guide, or any number of things.

however, if it is upsetting to you, and it sounds as if it is, you may want to try a few things that may make you feel safer and could protect you against anything troubling. such as blessing your home (every room and every door and window) with holy water--that you can bless yourself, if you wish, or you can get for free from a church or for a small nominal donation). You can burn some sage, which is suppose to help clear evil away--but be warned, it smells like pot (at least to me!). Also, there are any number of crystals you can use for protection, and even sprinkling salt around your home inside/outside or both. put salt in a small dish and keep it in the room. so many things to do--they've been discussed here many times, and you can do a search for them. try "Protection", that may be helpful. good luck!

If it is a spirit I don't really want to protect myself from it..rather find a way to be at ease with it, and know why it is there..as I think there must be a reason it s with me..but I really have no idea..definately something I want to understand

Can you tell (sometimes we can if we really listen to ourselves) whether it's a fear about the "person" or is it a fear of the unknown? That can tell you alot.

If it's a fear of the "person" that would be your subconscious letting you know it's not in your best interest to let this into your space. But if it's a fear of the unknown it very possibly could be an angel, guide, etc. trying to give you a message and you're blocking it.

There have been times where I've been scared of some spirit or angel because of a fear in myself - from a past life, etc. I've actually been focusing on letting the messages come through without blocking them because of my fear of past persecution.

Anyway just my two cents.

Sounds very much like it could be a form of sleep paralysis to me; I would suggest you search Google for "sleep paralysis" for more info. I have suffered from sleep paralysis on a couple of occasions and it can be very unsettling indeed; the first time it happened to me, it was terrifying.

I had a very similar experience back in Sept 2006. I really thought someone was literally watching over me or watching me while i was sleeping and it turned out to be my Mother who had passed away back in 2004. Of course I am not clairvoyant and was told this by an Amazing Sage who also happens to be here on AT who described my mother in every little detail, down to my mom's love of cooking and roses! I really think that you might be being contacted by Spirit...just my 2 cents...

I know if I woke up and thought there was someone in my room that I wasn't expecting my first reaction would be fear.
Having said that then the next step would be to talk to him/her.
A simple "Hello, what are you doing here?"
You may be a "sensitive" and your ability is opening up to the Spirit World, or it may be that you are sensitive and picking up on a memory imprint of some past event.
When I moved into a new house in an isolated area I had the feeling there was someone standing in the front doorway looking at me. What is weird is that I then adopted a cat who, you guessed it, would at times stare at the front door like there was someone there. Then I got another cat and he did the same thing. The cats would be happily asleep and then, like someone arriving, they would wake up and look at the door.
I started talking to whomever was there and eventually became comfortable with the whole thing and what was fear turned into a comfortable "oh, it's you".
Now I'm known as the crazy lady with 2 cats that talks to herself!
What we do not know, we fear.

I'm going to try not to change how I'm feeling next time it happens and just deal with the fact that I am scared then see what happens.. Alisa, I will say hello and have been thinking this might be a good move, if there is a guide/spirit/something wanting to communicate with me then I should at least try to communicate..
Soothsayer, I had a good look at sleep paralysis as well, really interesting and it could be that although there is no paralysis or sense of it at all.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago. I still am not quite sure who the heck is following me around. But once I let go of the initial fear, I got used to him being with me.

Once you've spoken to him you should have a better idea of what kind of spirit it is. I mean if it's good to be around or not. Then you can let him be or get him to leave. You may sense him at this time because your logical mind is quiet. He is trying to contact you for sure. How exciting! It may help if you keep your eyes closed and ask him a few questions, then quiet your mind to see what comes to you. It's ok to be afraid but it will interfere with contact so try your best to relax.

A lot of times I get images from mine and I have been able to give him his own voice (in my head) so I know which things I'm getting are coming from him. But most of it is sensing. I sense him and sense things from him. It's difficult to explain and mostly I do wonder if I'm completely insane since I swear he danced with me once. And he saved me from a car accident. He likes to ride in the car with me.

Soon you will be giving him his own place to sit and talking to him out loud. Welcome to Crazy Town!
