Mystery History Game #13

For this game, there's a huge event.
What is it I'm thinking of?

thanks for the new game. when I first started to shuffle the cards for this game, I had a feeling that this event was a happy event--something exciting and fun, and that everyone enjoyed. however, as I layed over the cards, they feel more depressing to me...

using the Golden Tarot:
9 coins rx, star rx, king of wands

I feel this event was probably hosted by a group that had to work hard to get all the financial backing for the event that they could. it wasn't easy to get this together, and also caused some heart ache all around. I feel that there may have been some looting and unlawful things that occurred during this event or leading up to this event.

the star rx gives the impression that hope for the people involved have all but disappeared for them. they feel hopeless and can't see their way out of htis dark and terrible time. it just feels very depressing to me with these 3 cards together.

the king of wands seems like a man who just doesn't give a darn and is wanting more and more. i feel like he is the one to blame or is being blamed by those who are suffering. he is hopeful with gaining more and more, no matter what the cost. this king may not really represent just one individual however, it can be a group of individuals who were somewhat responsible for this event. it can be that he was right, but in the meantime while the others are suffering, he doesn't seem to be truly helping them in their time of need.

first thing I thought of after reading all these cards was the Potato Famine in Ireland.

Thanks, bird!

My reading came out all quiet-like, which is odd because "a huge event" usually makes me think of a war or rebellion.

WHO: Queen of Cups. An artistic, introverted woman, somewhat impractical.

WHAT: Queen of Swords. I don't get a good feeling from her. The event centers on a controversial figure who is seen as sowing conflict.

WHERE: The High Priestess. The Old World somewhere. Possibly intuition has led the people who live in this region into the situation they find themselves in.

WHEN: Five of Rods. I could read this a couple ways. This could be either a hardscrabble time when people fight over every scrap of food, or a time of prosperity when people have nothing better to do than fight over banalities.

WHY: Two of Rods. This event happens because of a desire for motion, an impulse forward. Not necessarily violent, but we need to move past a time of stagnation.

CONSEQUENCES: Two of Pentacles. Lots of twos in this reading -- lots of people acting on gut instinct rather than considered thought. Robin Wood has a pentacle juggler walking a tightrope in the sky; the consequences are that people for a time are caught up in their high-flying ideals and will not be drawn back to reality.

Tricky. I think the Queens are probably the same person -- possibly Marie Antoinette, which would draw me towards the French Revolution, an approximate fit for the other cards as well.

With the UGLY:
I like blackbirds format so I shall shamelessly steal it:

WHO: 9 CupsRX: Someone who has made mistakes and faces opposition. Involved in a dispute.

WHAT: Magician: Creativity, skill, something involving ingenuity or trickery.

WHERE: Ace Wands: Perhaps a new country or place. Someplace becoming a new country or a new frontier of some sort.

WHEN: 3 CoinsRX: In a time of crudity, something unformed, perhaps a place without any civilization.

WHY: WorldRX: This event became known to the world but was probably seen as bad, at least in todays eyes.

SOMETHING SPECIAL: 6 Coins: Gifts, philanthrophy, sharing of wealth, but perhaps with measured generosity.

Conquest of the Americas?

Ha ha, feel free! When a journalist wants to explain an event, they need to answer the questions of who, what, where, when, why, and why it's important. I'm basically asking the Tarot to be my journalist in this game, so it makes sense that I would ask it the same questions.

For what it's worth, I use a pentagram-dot layout with "what" in the center since it's the answer to the puzzle. "Who" goes above it, "where" and "when" to the left and right, and "why" and "consequences" below and to the left and right.

yeah, i knew that. In fact, when we were in grade school and beginning to do research papers, we were taught to ask those same questions and answer them in our paper. also one extra question & answer was thrown in too -- "HOW". so, I may throw that in as well.

Yeah, I think it's common knowledge I learned "how" too, but I thought it might not be an especially useful question for certain events. On reflection, though, I wonder if you're right. A "building something" card like some of the Pentacles might have been helpful in the How position on the printing press, and I wouldn't have minded seeing a Moon or 7 Swords under How when we were doing Pearl Harbor. (Or for that matter a card with a lot of air imagery.) Experiment!

It cost a lot of money to do this. A large part of someone's personal assets was put into it. Looting and unlawful things probably occurred 'during' the event.

Yes, this is accurate for one group of people!

This is good! You've got a nice picture of the major figure behind this! There is one individual of most significance.

This could be a woman who helped the major figure.

This could be an aspect of the major figure himself. Or, it could be the same woman as the Q of cups. Swords are symbolic of her role in the event. Both of these people are controversial figures who sow conflict.

Not the old world, but you are getting the right idea. The part about intuition is spot on.

It was a time when people fought. A time of prosperity.

Two of Rods is a great card for WHY, especially if you see the person in it as the main figure. ...You're still using Robin Wood, right?

I think this part is a bit cold. The rest of the reading is good, though. There might be another interpretation for 2 pents.

Not the French Revolution.
