OK, I understand. I didn't know this about Sun Sign columnist. I tend to take what they say with a bucket of salt anyway

SwordsQueen - the way I understand it, to see the influence of Saturn this year on you, you look at transitting Saturn in relation to your natal chart planets (including natal Saturn); and in your Solar return chart between solar return Saturn and the other planets; and between transitting Saturn and your solar return planets. Same with lunar return (but that's month by month).

Have I understood it right?

That makes sense.

There are a variety of ways of doing this. The one that impresses me most is that used by J. P. Morin, the Seventeenth Century French Astrologer. Morin argued that for prediction purposes we should cast Solar Returns, Lunar Returns and Transits (in that order.

've missed out the traditional stage of looking at Primary Directions, mainly because I haven't the necessary software. I do have a spreadsheet I've designed but to be honest Primaries are a bit too arcane to introduce here.

Morin argued that we should start with the nativity. This shows what is promised and nothing that isn't promised will come to pass. On the other hand, what is promised is not certain to be delivered. We need to work for it.

The Return charts (Morin called them Revolutions) give us some indication about which of the 'promises' are likely to occur during the year. If something is shown in both natal and Solar Return, then it is likely to happen. When it will happen is identified by looking at the Lunar Returns and then when a likely Lunar Return is found, looking for transits that will trigger the event. This gives a fairly accurate timing.

Morin always cast the return charts for the place where the native was at the time of the return, not the birth place, arguing that the chart related to the person, not the place.

Minderwiz - is that Jean-Baptiste Morin de Villefranche?

You'd think his books would be readily available in France, but it's not so.
