I really want this deck. I have followed this thread from the begining. Unfortunatly I can not afford one right now. I am glad to know that there is still a chance that I may be able to own one. Thank You for all the time, dedication, and LOVE that you have put into redoing this deck. Be at Peace. I did not realize that there would be so small a printing. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy your work! CED __________________ There is nothing else. |

Hello all, Since 2 hours on this friday 06th august 2010 midday, I have in hands my copy well arrived..... I will come back soon with all I "calmly" noted about my impressions and observations. I compared Dussere Dodal Fac similé Full deck Flornoy 22 Majors handcrafted Flornoy Industrial version full deck Pablo Robledo retoration full deck I have also scans of BnF and BM museums I gently puted Pablo deck in a plastic box like all my historical decks and now it is in good position in my own "Hall of Fame" Tarot wall on top of my front shelve. just in front of me while I type this words. So we re only 8 Tarot Geeks all around this Earth to have a copy of this very limited edition. Whow !! Furthermore I have the... number 1st of this 24th july 2010 edition. You know what.... I am HAPPY as said Ted Avery. Yves "Droopy" LM __________________ Yves Le Marseillais Nul n'est au dessus de l'obligation de dire la vérité. Nobody is above obligation to tell Truth. |

Well if it reached the historic port of Marseilles today, maybe it has also reached the historic port of Lisbon! Mine is to be sent to my workplace so when I get there in a bit, I may find it waiting for me... Fingers crossed! |

Then, when you calm down, I'm interested very much for your opinion on the "artistic licenses" that I take, with shadows and colors (without straying from the original drawing) __________________ Hasta el Tarot siempre!!!! |

I had 24h first-fun with my Dodal now and still am very impressed with it. What i find especially well achieved and deserving lots of praise is the subtle balance achieved in the coloring, the colors are not to soft or mudded or screamingly bold, and have a nice contrast to the background/cardstock shading (something very hard to achieve apparently because most historical restorations are or to white in an effort to be true to the original as they are supposed to have been when first printed or to dark to be true to the cards as they are now) the material feels great also, not flimsy or thick and with a wonderful silky feel to the touch - a pure joy to handle. This is a true pearl within the Marseilles section of my collection! __________________ "After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Marseille City capital of Tarot Hello Pablo and all Forumers, First of all I would like to thanks all of these modern tarot cards makers that are well knows from most of us. On same level I put (even if it will not please them probably and some of my friends will also blame me for this. No problem for me): Paul Marteau Kris Hadar Rhodes (from Rhodes and Encarna duo) Philippe Tourrasse aka Camoin Jean Claude Flornoy (assisted with his wife Roxanne) Steve aka Thinbuddha Pablo Robledo aka ElTarot78 May I add not an unknown soldier but a “not yet know” tarot cards maker named Wilfrid who build up his own version. A considerable step ahead in my view. Plus some who are not yet in the light and works on same task: proposing their work for our collectioner benefit. Secondly, please note that Dodal deck is NOT my preferred Tarot of Marseille deck and I am not an expert in spite my collection and experience. Thirdly, if I compare authors decks, I don’t compare authors. I just declares my personal tastes and preferences. All this preliminary said, I will start by saying what I find ok and less ok in Pablo deck restoration. About back of deck: Well oriented as on originals BM and BnF museums. Precise drawing more esthetical that originals for me. About corners: Squared corners as on originals. Tradition is tradition. About size: Very close from originals. A pleasure for me. General aspect: This deck seems ancient (probably because of his non white background). Even if it appears to be a little bit “pinky”, this plus his primary deep colours gives him a certain “charm”. Colours: Yellow: ok for me Red: Deep and correct. I love red colour and only fresh blood could be adequate red for me. Blues: Deep for one and light for other parts. Ok for me Rose: Flesh is well marked. Rather good for me. Edges: Thin comparing to Flornoy Dodal industrial version. I prefers Pablo option. Paper: Textured appearance. Only in surface by Photoshop effect. I would have preferred a real 3 D effect by using of a really textured paper: I use textured paper. This paper seems a little bit too flexible for my taste. Flornoy industrial being too hard on the other hand. Dussere paper seems adequate for me regarding flexibility. Design details: Some details are added, changed or transformed such as leave in mouth of beast in Le Fol or many other minor details. Flornoy also did changed, transformed original lines (and sometimes colours). I just note that both of them changed lines. Anyway it is an hard task to restore an Historical Deck such this one and others. Well what can I say more ? I will wait with curiosity and confidence about Jean Michel David comments and no doubts he will put his reflexions on his usual place of comments. Pablo is really devoted to Tarot of Marseille pattern and I am sure that he will improve his work for a new edition. I respect ALL his choices and just thanks him again for this deck and futures one he could decide to restore or even create. ANY deck he will propose, I am ready to buy it. I authorise Pablo to give N° 1 of this new edition to Le Fanu who deserve it also. Private joke of course ha ha !!
