I had such huge hopes for this deck. Going by the images I saw online, I thought I'd finally found 'the ONE' and even contemplated getting rid of all my other decks 'cause I wouldn't need them anymore'. Well, I got the deck, used it for 3 weeks and then quietly put it back it's box. I haven't touched it for 2 years now. I didn't like the big size and glossy laminate, and I just felt that it was too personal to the artist - and not to me. I think it's one of the most striking and beautifully crafted decks of the last few years. But it's not for me. It also taught me that there's no such thing as a perfect deck. (Marina - totally agree about the Fergus Hall. In fact I got the DM thinking it would be very similar to it. Sadly it wasn't for me). |

I trimmed the deck within 5 minutes of pulling it out of the box...weird sized cards. |

I'm quavering on the border of buying this and not buying this. What I see in this thread is that people who *use* the deck tend to like it very much, or actively love it; I get the impression that people who are creeped out by it either don't own it, or haven't worked with it much. I'm mostly in the 2nd category, but it seems that if I did buy it and work with it, there's a good likelihood that I'd swiftly shift to the "love it" category. However, my impression could be wrong. I noticed that teomat has owned the deck for a long time and hasn't had the same reaction as most people who talked about owning and using it. Are there others who have used this deck and dislike it, find it creepy, etc.? Do others find that working with it does not improve their feelings about it? I am not at all dismissive of the opinions of people who don't have it because their initial impression is one of dislike (creeped-out-ed-ness, etc.) - "buy it and you'll like it" is not a moral imperative. Especially the "buy it" part! If you don't want to shell out the money for something you don't like the look of, you're ahead of me when I do buy something and then don't like it. Sometimes, if you think you don't like spinach, and you eat spinach, it turns out that you don't like spinach - save yourself the ick ![]() I think I'd actually like to either trade for it, or look at someone else's - get a better feel for it, beyond the images posted online. Well, I'll keep an eye out on the next trade train... __________________ ODW Feb. 7-June 6 2013: Dark Carnival and Minchiate "Man defines himself by what disturbs him and not by what reassures him." -- Elie Wiesel {~Tarot Orat ~ Tarot Speaks~} Last edited by Tarot Orat; 14-05-2010 at 01:42. |

I find them to be dark, yes, but not evil. To me, the way that the artist exaggerated the expressions and the gesture is just fine enough to convey a message in a reading. To me, it gives any reading a sharper and more accurate edge. It actually made a major distinction that sets this deck apart from other decks that usually speak in a more subtle manner. The arts? Well, are showing some kind of twists and adds to the feeling of being in another realm and/or universe. But, even so, the more I see them, the more I find them just as another human beings. They had some thoughts and emotions, just like any of us here. So, they're just as otherworldly as they're similar to us, in terms of thoughs, feelings, and emotions. __________________ There's a home for everyone in this world, you just have to wait and look around, considering every possible options, and if you already did look around and don't found one, then make one. I've had this deck since February and I love it. The images remind me very much of a Tim Burton movie and well I love his movies so that may explain my fascination with this deck. I find the characters in this deck to be very quirky and I love the rich colors. The cards are on the big side but the more time I spend with them the less awkward they feel when shuffling. It is my go to deck. I don't find it creepy or morbid in any way but I do respect any one who does and I would never impose this on any one. This is not a deck for everyone. I don't really like the Thoth and I am sure there are those who would think that I am crazy for not liking it. Those cards just creep me out. Although I have had it read for me a couple of times and found that it was a chatty little deck...which makes me think I would do okay reading wise with this deck but there is something about it that weirds me out that I can't put my finger on. But anyway back to the DM. I also find this deck to be quite chatty also. It reads well for me and it reads well for others. This deck reads very intuitive for me as well and the results are very spot on. For me anyway this was well worth the purchase and I love it. And I don't really care if this deck becomes a flash in the pan kind of deck. For me it's not about that. Its about what works well...or reads well in this case and that's all that matters. -Laura |

![]() What I was saying (forgive me, it was 9 am when I posted that message, I'm not human before 10 am, lol!) is that I can't picture it being used professionally because it's so creepy and bizarre. I find the exaggerated the expressions frightening, not chatty. It'll stay around, it is different, exotic and has it's fans, but I don't see if becoming the newest RWS, LOL!

But it has an accident because they got waterlogged in my bag! I love them better without the borders actually. Gives them a more olde-worlde look with the long thin cards.
