Dark Grimoire Tarot - The Sun

teomat

The Sun is usually considered one of the most positive cards in the tarot, so how does the Dark Grimoire deal with it..?

The image strongly reminds me of the Morlocks in H.G. Wells 'The Time Machine'. In the story, a time traveller goes forward in time and discovers that the human race has evolved into two different species - the Ely (a peace-loving but lethargic group of people who live above ground) and the Morlocks (a savage, cannabalistic people who live below ground). The Morlocks, unnacustomed to bright light, are therefore afraid/driven back by the sun.

So in this image, is the sun rising or setting? Are the 'Morlocks' being driven back, or are they about to emerge for the night?

As I would normally see this as a positive card (and considering that some of the figures seem to be bowing before it), I would say that the sun is rising. And perhaps the 'Morlocks' are finally welcoming it and to the opportunity to leave their subterranean existence and 'step into the light'?

The Sun brings illumination and the shadows (and our fears) disappear.
