Giants Tarot - The Hermit

Rede Seeker

Hyndla represents The Hermit in the Giants Tarot. Quoting from the booklet that comes with the deck:

'...Her name means "hound", and she is fond of both hounds and wolves. She is shown in this card with one pet of each type, searching the great web of ancestry both human and otherwise...'

The imagery on the card shows an albino woman of indeterminant age with long, blue-grey hair worn loose, which extends past her waist. Behind her there is a wolf on her left side; a hound on her right. Her palms are open and turned forward. A thin red line rises from each palm chakra and form a thin root-like or vein-like web around her, the wolf and hound.

This is an interesting choice of imagery - Hyndla is in touch with the web. The wolf is often associated with path-finding. The hound is famous for it's sense of smell.

Hyndla-Lore comes to us from the Hyndla Saga in the Poetic Edda. The Goddess Freya asks Hyndla to recite the lineage of Ottar, Freya's current paramour.
