Judgement - what does it mean to you

bellathebrave123

The Judgement card seems to be the one stand out card that I have a problem with. Its not a problem so much as , it just doesnt feel like it speaks to me in the same way as the others , if that makes sense?
Its weird really, but I cant seem to connect with it.
Id really love to hear what other feel or sense with this card, its such an enigma to me.

Miss Divine

It's actually meant history repeating itself on sevaral occasions for me.
Or someone from the past suddenly pops up again unexpectedly.

I sometimes have trouble with this card when it comes up in a reading for me too. Especially in the outcome position. It's indicated endings, but like I mentioned above also new beginnings, from something/someone/situations from the past returning back in your life.

It's come up for being a wakeup call for me too. Like when you finally ''see the light''.

To me, it's the "Long Dark Teatime of the Soul", in the words of Douglas Adams. It's those nights you can't sleep or days you hide away, for reviewing things you made agonisingly bad choices over, or times you could have behaved a lot better. Judgement tells you that at the indicated time, you will need to face yourself and your defects and motivations ruthlessly and without mercy in order to get anywhere or to allow yourself to develop. It's an inner, personal card. And of the inner, personal cards, it's the Big One.

The search function threw up quite a few threads - these are the first few of them. I haven't looked at any of them, but you might like to:-

I have trouble with Judgment, as well. No matter how much I research it, I remain flummoxed.

First of all, it barely shows up. So I seldom have real-life manifestations to refer to in hindsight. More importantly, it never shows up in predictive readings pointing to a definite outcome that I can confirm -- so again, it hasn't spoken to me in my "personal language" yet. Very troubling.

Actually, there was one singular incidence of Judgment that did make sense. A friend of mine was having major psychological issues, relating to childhood abuse and unresolved baggage from her past. She directly asked me how, despite my own lurid, violent upbringing, I managed to turn out "stable". I couldn't think of how to answer her. I just ... did. When I threw down some cards, Judgment was the centerpiece. I instantly connected with its message, then and there. The "phoenix rising from the ashes" symbolism resonated. The "Long Dark Teatime of the Soul" that nisaba referenced also resonated. Furthermore, there was emphasis on taking a huge personal step. And surveying the ruins with introspection and courage.

Aside from that, though, I haven't been able to make sense of its rare appearences. Especially in banal, generalized readings. Wish I could be more helpful, but I'm struggling with it myself.

For me Judgement (the card) means, Judgment day comes, but not to be judged by others or by deities, but judgment of one self. This is a card of transition, or rebirth of the spirit. It signals change is heading your way. You cannot hide from these changes. It is time to admit past mistakes, learn from them, and put those past mistakes behind you. Don’t let mistakes of the past weight you down and hold you back. Time to forgive yourself and move forward. Only carry the lessons and knowledge you have learned, not the guilt. It is time to come out of the shadows, stand up for yourself, and take a stand. You are self assured, you know what is right for you.
Forgiving one's self is very hard...I have yet to learn the lessons of this card.

If it is a RWS card then it means, that you will get a telephone call, or hear of an announcement of some sort. Hear music since the angel is blowing a trumpet. And it means to get up early in the morning in order to "rise and shine."

A second chance, or a new opportunity, or just plain hearing the call.

In health one get up and walk again.

In jail one would be given parole.

Out of work, then a new job will be offered to you.

Sitting at home alone, then someone will call you.

To me this card is a call to action. It's the time to put your money where your mouth is card, aka the walk the talk card. Time to take all that you know you should do/could do/want to do/need to do, and actually do it. The moment of truth, so to speak. We are judged more by our actions than our words after all. If you think how the lessons of almost all the cards come before it, and now it is time to take what you have learned and integrated and put it into practice, that's the picture. What follows, but The World, where you have succeeded in doing just that.

Judgment refers to change, and for a while, it perplexed me as well. There are so many cards in the deck that speak of change, but as others have said, this one is more about inner change.

In the biblical sense, you face Judgment after Death, when you have to account for your past actions. In some decks, there are images of a phoenix, or springtime, or angels flying overhead. The change in Judgment is the slow, thoughtful kind that happens *after* you have experienced a shift in The Wheel of Fortune, after the Tower has wreaked havoc on your life, or Death has closed some door. Change causes us to sit down and reconsider our path in life, our goals, and while yes, it is important to consider the past, this card reminds us that there is always hope, that you can now move on from the chaos that change brings and start anew. I have never seen a negative Judgment card. The message is one of hope, fresh starts, and "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

For me, this card has come during times of emotional turmoil (a reminder that there is light at the end of the tunnel) or major change (such as a long-distance move).

I could see how it would come up when people from the past come back into your life, as that is often something that causes us to reminisce and compare our old lives to our new.

As others have mentioned, it doesn't have to follow a period of chaos either. It is also about enlightenment and accomplishment.

I could see Judgment coming up if you discover religion or some new philosophy that changes your outlook on the world.
I could also see it coming up as you are coming to the end of a 3-year project at work.

In a relationship reading for a friend, I once got the Judgment as an indication that the other person had moved on.

A Eureka! or Aha! moment is needed. It's time to step back and look over what has happened and what you need to do to move forward (if you don't take the time to atone or repent (if necessary), you'll probably repeat the same mistakes over and over again.)

Next step is The World--completion or closure--but you have to go through Judgment in order to get there.
