Loteria Cards

I had a friend go out of town last weekend and she brought me a gift of a Loteria set. They differ from the traditional Loteria cards in that the images are very cute and done in a cartoon style. (I am a bigger fan of the traditional art, but these have a seriously cute rendition of Death.)

Lorteria Cards are not an oracle deck or a tarot deck, but could be one. For those who do not know what they are, they are used to play a type of Mexican bingo. I have never played them the way the game was meant to be played, but I own a couple of sets as the images intrigue me.

They remind me of a strange mixture of Lenormand, Tarot, and Sybilla decks. Does anyone know where or how the images came into being? Has anyone used them as an oracle?

There are several threads about these cards. I got mine from a little Mexian Food shop in Brighton (UK). Somewhere here there's a list of the little rhymes that go with each card. Try this thread, it has some links;
