There is NO WAY these cats are light and fluffy.

It's a GREAT deck. TOTALLY cat. Who may be fluffy in a cattish sort of way, but absolutely not in a fluffy way, and you all know what I mean.

If you click on my profile and to my website, you can see the text I wrote for some of the cards along with the final art, if you are interested. I don't think you are allowed to post links on this forum. (?)

Glad you like the deck, Gregory :-)

If you are interested in the story behind the Pagan Cats Tarot, I actually just wrote about it today on my blog.

Here is a snippet:
This project had very humble beginnings. Ric from Lo Scarabeo asked me if I was interested in writing the script for a light, fluffy, novelty deck. Because I love light, fluffy, and novel, I said yes.

Once I began, though, I found that the Cats had different ideas. While the deck is truly cute, it really isn’t light and fluffy. As I began writing ideas and descriptions, I kept reminding myself, this is a deck of Pagan Cats. Not just cats, but Pagan cats. What did that mean? How did that translate into tarot? How did it affect tarot? In short, I began feeling very serious about this.

Luckily, the cats themselves were quite vocal (in my mind, anyhow) and were clear about how they wanted to be depicted. In a way, the images felt as if they were from me but also more than me. And the result is a deck that is more than anyone originally expected.

As for why the pen name...the catalog this was originally meant to go when had another project by me and Lo Scarabeo didn't want two by the same author in one catalog. Unfortunately, the second project has been delayed so the pen name was unnecessary.

I wish this had my name on it, as it is the first deck that I completely wrote the script for and directed the art. This deck is "me" more than any other I've ever worked on. And it is what I am most proud of so far (next to Tarot for Beginners).

As for the companion book...there is such a tight word limit that I could give general meanings or talk about the cats. I wanted it to be useful to a complete beginning, so I opted for general knowing most advanced users would toss it.

I hope that answers some of your questions.

PS regarding, for example, the Vampires book, I relied in part on the artists' notes and on bouncing ideas and concepts around with Lo Scarabeo. Many times the artists (for decks) are not writers. Because I have a knack for getting what the artist is trying to convey, I do get selected for this work. All the artists (well, all the English-speaking artists) read and approve the text.

PPS yes, Llewellyn and Lo Scarabeo are independent. Llewellyn is the North American distributor for LS.

I think that is all.
Thank you so much for posting and responding. It helps clarifies so many things .

Regarding my comment about the LWB, I think some of us more experienced readers--those of us that are not starting out--forget that decks need LWBs. And it is interesting to know about the character limit for the LWB text. Although that seemed obvious, it's something that I never considered even thinking about. Every LWB cannot feature the story line of the deck I suppose. And of course not every artist can write their own companion book. It's just a bonus when they can, but also nice to know that they are involved in the project.

I work in book publishing, so I understand a lot of the logistics that go into projects.

It's an amazing deck, and like I mentioned before, a wonderful Tarot deck on its own, not just a thematic deck. It is so readable and beautiful to look at!

This thread helped bring this deck to my attention, and I look forward to getting it. None of the other cat decks have "done it" for me, and to be honest, the name of this one didn't sound appealing when I originally noticed it.

But when I saw some artwork... wow! It does seem to capture the spirit of the cats nicely. I like the way they are just being cats (not people) in the RWS setting.

So I will be getting this one and using it soon.

You can post links OK - as long as they aren't a) advertising or b) links to Those Evil Sites that show full decks outside of copyright. Oh - or c) to other forums

This deck won over Lillie (see review.) She is NOT a cat person - she allowed that my Flurp was OK, but other than that.....

She loves it !

No. I like cats. I had one once.

I just don't like cat decks.
Except this one.
I love this one.

Nice to meet the creator You and the artist did a great job.

LS uses a different typeface than usual for the titles on this one. I think that it so much better suits these pictures.

My deck arrived a couple of days ago. I looked through it briefly- I like how they feel. Hopefully I can spend more time with it this weekend.
